Print a multicolor model with embedded color

Hi there,

I wonder how it could be possible to print the following.

The model consists of "filament1".
In the top layer have to be some shapes with "filament2". The rest of the layer shall be "filament1".

I know that the filamentchange can be done with M600 command, but how can I force the slicer to finish second top layer, M600, print filament2-shapes on top-layer, M600, complete top layer with "filament1".

Is there a Slicer that can do that?

Greetings an thanks for any hint,
Daniel

That would require a dual extruder, chimera or cyclops setup. Since you can only do an M600 color change at the end of one/beginning of the next layer it is impossible to do with a single extruder.

Actually, it is possible; you can add the M600 code wherever you want to.

The problem would be that you would have to ger the slicer to keep one section of code all together and then identify that code in the GCode file and insert M600 both before and after.

Now this is something that most slicers cannot do, but KISS on the other hand. That should be able to do it.

In fact, you should be able to spoof a dual extruder setup with KISS, using M600 as the tool change code. Interesting thought; I shall investigate further...

Yes. I too think, that the key is, to make the slicer work in that way, that all other material on this layer will be printed at once, and after that the rest.
I'll try it that way.

Thanks Peter 🙂
