Poor resolution on first print

I recently received my MK2S printer, and I had some major problems with one of my first prints (a small airplane). As you can see in the attached images, the filament seemed to come out too "thick." I used the standard 0.100 mm setting in Prusa Slic3r (with supports). And I used PLA filament that I bought from Prusa along with the printer itself.

Any idea what the problem is? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Poor resolution on first print

Just judging by the "feet" of the plane it looks like your nozzle is too high. Under Settings you'll find the Live Z Adjustment tuner; use that to make small incremental changes to the height of the nozzle. You'll want a negative value here. This is a good guide to calibrating the various aspects of your printer; the sheet of paper method for finding your live Z height is easy and works well.

Re: Poor resolution on first print

I strongly suggest you separate the problem into two pieces. Does the printer work correctly? Are you slicing the object correctly.

If you print objects from the included SD card, your printer is set fine and you should focus on your slicer settings.

If the included objects are bad, post photos and we can help diagnose.

Thank you both very much for the advice and the link. I thought I had calibrated the z-axis correctly by following the instructions out of the box, but I see now I did not. I will follow these calibration instructions, then print out the prints that came with the SD card before trying more challenging prints. Thank you.
