Plastic leaking out of top of heat block

Hi all,

We bought our printer pre-assembled and calibrated by Prusa, which was great at first but I fear now I am lacking some education I would have received during the build.

I recently had a print disaster where an overnight print wound up encasing my hot end in plastic. I cleaned it all up and wound up having to replace the thermistor due to damage caused by cleanup. While I was cleaning and doing the repair, I installed a new hardened steel print nozzle. I thought I had tightened it up a lot (to where I was afraid of stripping the threads), but now the heat block is able to turn relatively loosely in the assembly, and it oozes plastic from between the heat block and the heat sink above.

I have read various forums and it seems like the answer is to tighten the tube going into the heat block, but this is contrary to the advice on the Prusa forums which say to tighten the nozzle more. Since the only information on this that I could find is from 2015 on an older model printer, I thought I should ask here. Does anyone have some advice for a stressed-out newbie?

Thanks,

MDP

I think the advice you will find on these forums is to install the nozzle in accordance with the instructions and not to "tighten things more".

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response. Interestingly you were active in the thread I was reading where Josef gave the advice to tighten the nozzle more.
(reference: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/prusa-i3-kit-building-calibrating-first-print-main-f6/extruder-leaking-filament-over-hot-end-t254.html ) As I noted though, that was for an older version of this printer and I'm not sure those instructions apply.

I did follow the nozzle install instructions on the Prusa assembly instructions, but since I am seeing unexpected results I was hoping someone had some further advice on the matter. This hotend assembly doesn't have much assembly information about it, so I am guessing it's not supposed to come apart between heat sink and hot block.

You're supposed to tighten everything when the hotend is hot to have a perfectly tighten nozzle.

Take a look at this great video made by Thomas Sanladerer:

The best place to get instructions is the manufacturer: https://e3d-online.dozuki.com/Guide/V6+Assembly/6

Note step 3 (in particular undo 1/4 of a turn) and step 4 where the heat break is screwed in place.
