Novice questions

Hello!

I would like to buy a 3d printer and I need to plan the material post-production methodology.

So there are couple of materials and when I read description I feel that there are a lot of possibilities for
creating a lot of different things, for example: shoes, fidget spinners, iphone cases and etc.

I have a certain list of questions:

1) For couple of "metal" filaments I found following description: "Can be polished to achieve metallic look".
How to polish it better? What instrument to use/Youtube tutorial to watch for polishing that kind of materials?

2) What is Flex and what it could be used for? Is shoe printing possible for this material? What post-production
techniques are available for better look, texture/painting application?

3) What about "Special colorFabb XT" material? Is it good?

4) How to make 3d printings with ABS material better? How to paint it, apply post-production visual improvements?

I just want to know before buy everything, because I want to be prepared for difficulty level of all that stuff to proceed with.

Thanks for your attention.

Best Regards,
Ilja Davidov.

Re: Novice questions

Most of us think you should climb the learning curve with PLA first. The other types are fickle and should only be attempted after you have mastered PLA. The metal filaments are for looks only - they are not structural.

What are you printing goals? That will help us better answer your questions as things are very different if you need structural strength, looks, and if you are willing to do a lot of post processing or keep it simple.

Please explain some example "projects" you would hope to accomplish and we can help direct your methods.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…
