Newbies first printer
Hi Folks,
after quite some time of investigations into the 3D printers I did wend totaly above my budged and ordered the Prusa i3 MkII, wanted for sure something more affordable, but XYZ is quite rubish in QA, at least based on reviews, i3 clones, are stealing (ok may be not its open source) but all of the clones have quality issues as well, so I decided to go for reliable original, I hope I made the right decision, never owned a 3D printer, but want to print toys for the kids, and enclosures of my electronics.
A few beginner questions, until the printer arrives: Tinkercad, is it working well with the Prusa?
Assembly of the kit: how tricky is the cabling there? Any special areas that can cause issues during assembly?
How reliable are the parts, I'm a bit worried looking at it as its plastic, how sturdy are they? how long will they last?
And how are the sparepart, and sparepart service?
Anything to know until the printer arriwes?
what is the SW you would recommend a noon like my self? looking for simplicity dont have time to learn fancy SW
thanks,
Daniel
Re: Newbies firts printer
I have two prusa's. one original, and one clone...
the prusa original is much better than the clone.
I use 123D design...

Read the online manual while you are waiting; you will find out all you need to know about assembly.
I use Tinkercad for model design and it works well with these printers.

Re: Newbies first printer
How about the software, as you see I'm a total noob here, let me ask so I will have a modeling SW, or download the model, do I then need a slicer? If so what is the easiest to use that makes sense for the MkII? I found this
What Slicer are you using? Any link to a preset that should work, on the 1kg material that comes with the kit?
Re: Newbies first printer
The slicer Slic3r mentioned in your video is part of the driver package of the printer. (available here: http://www.prusa3d.com/drivers/ )
It comes with premade profiles for a lot of different filaments, including the free 1kg roll you get with your prionter. So basically, you're all set once you installed the drivers.
I prefer using Simplify3D, but that's pay software and not terribly cheap at that (149,00 US$ irc). I'd stick to the free Slic3r for starters.

good to know thanks

I was spending now some time on studying the slicers, and I will print the test prints as they are on the SD card, but after references and evaluation I will go for Simplify3D I saw it just gives overall the best results, based on reviews.
Any special settings, is there a MkII profile?

Try to compare results reported by Original Prusa i3 MK2 users. Otherwise, you do not get the right picture.
The Slic3r software has just recently been updated and further adapted to i3 Mk2 use. Nothing beats that ease of already tuned integration to this machine.
As a beginner, just stick to the Prusa recommendations:
Use Slic3r, and print from SD card, not some software while connected to your computer.
Re: Newbies first printer
Yeah. For me, KISS has always produced the best results. And some if it's features are now in the later Slic3r versions.
However, KISS is not for anyone new to 3D printing; some settings are quite complex and very easy to get wrong.
Cura is OK, but I have never had the same quality results as when using KISS. Craftware seems to have a load of features not found elsewhere, but that too has some issues with the Mk2.
I can't comment on S3D nor Slic3r as I have never used them.

Re: Newbies first printer
I was surprised to see how much a slicer can impact on quality of the print on the same filament, same machine and same model.
What about firts layer adjustments, on the heated bed does a separate setting for the first layers make any fifference?
Re: Newbies first printer

Current versions of Simplify3D come with a profile for the MK2 and there is another profile (or the release candidate of a profile made by Prusa themselves) here: http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/simplify3d-print-settings-august-30-2016--t938.htm
I started out with the rc from Prusa and went from there.
Re: Newbies first printer
OK after chatting around, and looking for references on bearings I tend now to order these ones Igus RJZM-01-08 they are expensive, but looks they not just by a lot of more quite, but as well less vibration, tend to get them, and add them directly into the build of the kit.
Any one using them?
I found out that the outside diameter is 1mm bigger so instead of 15 its 16 mm
and therefore http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1853471
will evaluate that and in case I go for them I will ask someone around to print me the carriage above
