MK2s print quality drops after a few prints from SD card (and other issues)

Hi all,

I am currently printing solely from SD card, as long as I have some weird issues with OctoPrint and the MK2, but I encounter problems here too.

First of all: If printing a few times in a row from SD card, the printing quality decreases rapidly from one print to the other. The object to print remains the same. When the quality drop occurs the perimeters get printed badly. It seems like over-extrusion, wrapping or a plowing nozzle. Nothing in terms of settings or room conditions has changes from the last good print. I assume that there is an issue with the Z distance calibration. Maybe an overflow somewhere? I have rather long filenames and several folder levels.

Interesting observation: Restarting the printer either from turning power off and on, or by pressing the kill-switch turns everything back to normal again. Printing works flawlessly again!!! 😮 😯

Another thing, that bothers me too (maybe also related to filename length and folder levels?!): After more than three times removing the SD card and putting it back in crashes / freezes the printer when entering the SD card's file menu. I get only the "back to menu" option displayed (the one with "menu" and the curly up-arrows on the left and right side), but the printer and the display don't react anymore. Turning it back off and on again helps. 🙁

Does anyone have experienced similar behaviour? Firmware is at 3.0.8.

Bye,
Martin

First thing I would suggest is to re-flash the firmware.

It is very rare that I print from SD card, but I did about 3 weeks ago when I took the printer to an exhibition. I printed the same model 10 or 15 times; all came out pretty much identically near-perfect.
