MK2 to MK3 Upgrade parts

Hi guys!

First time here...

Customer support on the chat wasn't helpful at all and wanted to know if someone over here could help me!

I have a MK2S bought just less than a month before the MK3 released and I wanted to buy the full upgrade kit (MK3)..

Which components are needed to build a another MK2 from the leftovers?? As Josef said in a video, that basically you would need to upgrade almost all the parts...

Hope someone knows the answer 😀

Re: MK2 to MK3 Upgrade parts

I suspect that Nobody knows the absolute answer... but this may help

Upgrade kit contains:

Magnetic MK52 Heatbed 24v with powder coated PEI spring steel print sheet
Bondtech extruder gears
Filament Sensor
P.I.N.D.A. 2 with thermistor
Noctua fan 24v
EINSY RAMBo motherboard with Trinamic 2130 drivers
505015 blower fan
PSU 24v
new dural frame with 1 cm more z height and 16 holes
E3D V6 Hotend assembly 24v
3030 extrusions
front and rear plate
300g EasyABS filament
if you're upgrading from MK2, you will NOT get MK2S parts like u-bolts and new rods/bearings, you have to get them separately.

G-code files to print on your MK2/S will be available prior to the release on Prusa i3 printable parts.

I can't find the MMk2 to Mk3 upgrade assembly manual yet, it would be a good idea to keep a look out for that and read through it before starting any work on the upgrade. this may identify other items that are required.

So in the list above, I don't see stepper motors (Extruder, X axis, Y axis and Z axis including Lead Screws, smooth rods, spiral wrap, zip ties, LM8uu bearings & ubolts, Rambo case and cover, X&Y motor pulleys, X & Y Axis Idlers(including bearings), LCD Display and switch panel and cables, Z axis motor brackets, and Zaxis Top Plates, X axis ends, Leadscrew nuts, assorted M3 Hex head socket screws and Plain Nuts, Lock Nuts , Square nuts, Power Cable for mains, Nylon cable bundle re-enforcement filaments (3mm Diameter) so you probably need to replace all of those ( I bought a sample of Nylon, which was long enough to replace all of the cable supports a couple of times,so I would suggest that you retire the old filament supports as a matter of good housekeeping)

it's probably a good idea to get some new GT2 belts,
Personally I would replace the heat bed power cables as a matter of course. and probably change the PEI sheet especially if there are any signs of wear or damage. If I was starting with a Mk2 ( Not the S version) I would also try to update the X carriage to the Mk2S X axis carriage as this has better cable management.
My heatbed connector cover has become distorted so I suggest that you check yours and replace if necessary,

I suggest that you look at the items to be re printed on the Mk2/2s before starting the Mk3 upgrade, anything you have to print for the Mk3 will be spare from the Mk2 so if you have to print an einsey housing with cover, then the rambo housing & cover will be spare. similarly the X axis ends... however I understand that the new X axis right hand side, does not have screws on the end of the smooth rods, so the X axis plastic parts may be replaced as part of the kit , the Y axis plastics are all new, on the mk3 so the old ones will probably be spare

I don't see Y axis carriage plate, however the Mk52 bed uses different mountings, so I assume (which is dangerous 🙂 ) that the old Y axis carriage plate will be spare,

additionally I suggest you investigate the possibility of people local to you with 3D printers, just in case you find a part missing or break a part during upgrade, (Maybe there is a maker space or hacker space locally), other options are 3D hubs, and buying direct from Prusa...

May I wish you all the best with your project.

regards Joan
