Is it possible to mix 2 filament colors with the upgraded color kit?

Re: Mixed Colors

mix as in load two colors to get a mixed 3rd color: no.

You can print parts of an object in alternating colors without having to manually remove the filament when swapping the color.

Here's some video explaining it:

Re: Mixed Colors

Is the reason for this the controller board or are there other limitations preventing color mixing? If the controller board could drive multiple extruder motors simultaneously, could then a new firmware support color mixing?

Re: Mixed Colors

What happens is that when the color changes, the filament is backed out of the extruder and another filament is inserted. Since you can't fit 2 1.75mm filaments into the extruder at the same time, you cannot mix colors. Only one 1.75mm filament can be loaded at a time.

The only hotend I know of that would have the possibility of mixing is the Cyclops. However I do not believe the i3 MK2 could be modified support it with the current firmware.
