Loud Crashing sound as the printer auto home

Was tweaking settings today getting printer dialed in and at some point it started making a crashing sound (can't describe it differently) even when I know it's coming it startles me as the bed seemingly bottoms out at home position. does the 9 point calibration then just as it's about to run the line across the front of the bed it sounds like it's coming off the rails.

any suggestions?

I've seen reports of the MK2 "slamming" into the X axis after a canceled print and I think I experienced something similar (but it happened very quickly so I'm not sure). Could that be the problem?

I'm going to answer my own question with an " I don't know for sure."

I did an online chat with PR and they were scratching their heads too. Then I did an "mesh bed leveling" from settings which failed miserably. it buried the nozzle int he front third of my heat bed. luckily no damage.

so then I did "Auto Home" to reset it and after that no more crashing noises. Not sure why but it was off somehow and the printer seemed to think it had a little more heat bed to move than it actually sis.

luckily it was resolved with the auto home command.

interestingly it was printing fine and passing the auto cal before each print.

Re: Loud Crashing sound as the printer auto home

Here's what happens with my MK2, maybe something sounds familiar?

- if i cancel a print using the X Button on the display, all the bets are off and Z needs to be recalibrated.

- sometimes the spiral wrap of the extruder wire bundle got caught on the Rambo case causing it to lose a step or two, especially in silent mode. Rearranging the wire bundle or printing a Rambo case lid with rounded edges fixed this.

- i need to make sure that during the preheat phase before starting a new print, the pinda probe is far away from the heatbed, as it seems to be temperature sensitive. If I dont raise it, it will crash into bed during calibration before the print. I therefore added a move command to my slicer end script that moves the extruder up at the end - but for testing you could move it manually using the menu before starting a print.

- if i leave the Z axis motors powered off for a while, i need to recalibrate Z. I don't know if this is because somebody was messing with the printer while i was not there or if there's a tiny bit of sag when motors are powered off.

I have cancelled a few prints with the X but haven't noticed an issue with it being off after that.
not had the cabling issue with mine luckily but good to know a simple print will fix it.
I also have my printhead move off the printbed during preheat. I have mine set to Z30. it seems to work fine.

as I said it didn't seem awful but it was jarring and would've woken the house if I tried to print after hours glad it got resolved easily. this printer is very nice but still takes some tinkering

The "x" on the front panel is a hardware reset - I can't imagine this is the best avenue for canceling a print? Although, certainly the fastest.

I have had it happen but not since I've change my workflow. I use the auto home after the following:

- Hitting the cancel on the LCD
- Any time the MK2 is powered on ( usually it is always in sleep mode and on an UPS)
- Before doing any calibration routine

it has not been doing it for a while but now it's doing it again. if I tell it to "auto home" it doesn't do it but after completing a print it does it agin

Re: Loud Crashing sound as the printer auto home

Try modifying your slicer with custom G-code to raise the Z axis to about 100 after the print is complete so the pinda does not get worn.
