Layer Shifting
Hello everyone, I am having a strange thing happening on some of my prints. The layers seems to shift (at random spots), which id normally a belt issues, however the layers seem to correct themselves perfectly after a few layers, creating a v shape indentation. Any Ideas on what this could be?
Is it possible the belt is skipping and it just conveniently skips back to the same position during the print?

I think i have the same problem, prints shifting sideways. But i´m just beginning to look into the problem staring here at the forum. I did a 9h print yesterday witch i will have to trash...

sounds like one of your belt pulleys it loose
as if the grub screw is not on the middle of the flat of the motor shaft but slightly off centre
so it stops the pulley fully rotating completely but allows the motor to drive the mechanism in one direction ok, but in the other direction it is only just holding position, then if something catches the motor skips forward without the pulley following, until the grub screw again comes into contact with the motor shaft, at which point the pulley starts turning again... this can repeat occasionally, or repeatedly depending on the fit of the various components.
but the distance of the layer shift is a factor of the looseness of the grub screw
to correct, loosen the drive pulley grub screw. rotate the pulley a small amount until the grub screw is exactly opposite the flat on the motor shaft, and then re tighten the grub screw. making sure that the belt alignment is retained!

Thanks, that was the main problem. I did not find it at first because my linear y bearings also allowed some movement between the rods and y carriage witch i att first thought was the problem, it was when i was swapping bearings i saw that the pulley was loose to. All those things fixed all seems to be working just fine.
