Larger Nozzles and Print Layer Height

I'm working on replicating a bunch of parts that don't need an incredible amount of detail. To decrease print time, I'm considering increasing my nozzle diameter from the stock .4 mm. I'm looking to get some feedback from those that have gone from .4 mm tips to as large as .8 mm tips. I've read that our hot ends are limited and weren't intended for tips this large. At the moment, I'm considering going with either a .5 mm or a .6 mm tip so I can experiment with .35 mm layer height or larger.

Larger nozzle diameter means reduced layer quality, but faster printing for sure ie 0.6 and 0.8 diameter nozzles. You will need to adjust diameter of nozzle in your slicing software along with filament feed rate.

Adding to what Nigel said, also you will need to adjust the hotend temp up since you will be pushing more plastic through.

I have a question along the lines of this thread. I know that my nozzle is the standard 0.4mm type. But I just noticed in my Slic3r software, the setting for nozzle diameter, under Printer Settings>>Extruder1 is set to 0.25mm.

I know I have never changed this myself. It must have been that way from day 1(?). I have been printing for several months now and things seem to be fine. Should I change this setting to match my nozzle?
