Is this bed temp variation normal?

Folks,
I'm attempting to diagnose poor bed adhesion. Are bed hotspots and bed temperature variations from 52C-57C normal and expected?

I've used an FLIR attachment for my phone to capture a thermal image of the heated MK2 bed:

The front of the bed is to the left of the photo.

And here are the max/min temps:

As you can see, it appears that the bed is heated fairly well, with a hotspot in the front right corner. The minimum temp is 52.2, and max is 57.

Is that variation expected? is the location of the hotspot expected?

That looks pretty good to be fair. The glass topped beds I've used would drop off dramatically on three sides making large prints a total test of faith.

What are your adhesion problems? Has this variance led to warping in the lower temperature areas?

Michael,
Thanks for the response. I'm not sure how much is bed adhesion vs. under extrusion vs. temp derived. I'm having to live adjust my Z way too low in order to get bed adhesion:

The first layer is nearly translucent and even still, some of the lines are discrete.

When I print the Adalinda model, the claws are a mess:

I've rebuilt xy, leveled, calibrated xy & z with the latest firmware, cleaned the bed with alcohol, tried glue, nothing. I get quite good adhesion when I crank the nozzle temp to 230 but then I get a low-temp thermal runaway shutdown on the 2nd or 3rd layer of Adalinda as the nozzle temps plummet.

that sounds super frustrating. You're working through all the right tests though.

Have you tried a lower layer height for the first layer?

I've found that squeezing a thicker layer flat with the z-adjust doesn't work as I'd expect and tends to curl up.
