How to remove outline line at beginning of print?
I'm printing 210 x 210 object and noticed that the outline line that gets printed at beginning of print interferes with actual print at the top/back. How can I remove that line in Slic3r, or is there another way to have it not print?
Re: How to remove outline line at beginning of print?
That's called a 'Skirt' and to change it you need to go in Slic3r to the Print Settings tab, then click on Skirt and brim in the list on the left. You will see on the right a box labelled Skirt, those are the settings you need to change. It's best to keep it and just make it further out from the object if possible as it helps to get the filament flowing properly before starting the print proper...
Re: How to remove outline line at beginning of print?
The problem here is that if you are printing a model 210mm deep, there is simply no room for a skirt.
The printer will still print it if it has been requested by the slicer, but will only move within the limits of the firmware. So if the skirt should be printed at Y=220 then the firmware will only allow movement to 210.
Personally, I don't print to the limits of the printer and keep my model parts to 240x200 so that I can always get a skirt/brim/raft.

Re: How to remove outline line at beginning of print?
As indicated, set the skirt lines to 0.
I don't see the point of using skirts seeing as the pre-trude line at -3 per the prepackaged gcode gets the filament flowing already.
At best it represents risk for literally no reward, because sometimes the skirts will mess up, and since they surround your print, it's impossible to remove the skirt while the object is printing.

Use some scissors you must.
True, I've never been quite deft enough to do it; probably because I do mostly small parts. You guys do some really monster prints...
Speed-wise, best time to attempt it would be during the first layer when the speed is reduced.
But that's also when the hotend is closest to the bed and most likely to get in the way.
I still see little actual benefit of the skirt though considering the pre-trude gets the job done the vast majority of the time, unless there's some situation where the travel from the end of the pre-trude to the starting point is so long that it's beneficial to use the skirt as a "pit stop" between the two.

Makes sense, thanks everyone. Normally I would never print something so big but I'm printing out a board game and need it as big as possible.
