Hotend Will Not Heat--Preheat Error--Bed and fans work fine
Hi Everyone,
I have a MK2 and it has been awesome....until today. It will not heat up the hotend. It gets to 29 or 30 degrees, and eventually i get a preheat error and the fans kick on. The bed heats up perfectly, fan works great....just the hotend is the issue.
I reflashed the firmware to 3.0.10 and the problem still persists, then i went back to 3.0.9 still had the same issue and then back again to 3.0.10 and still no luck.
Any insights on troubleshooting this? I cant seem to find what i need by searching...usually just a quick search solves all my issues.
Thanks
Re: Hotend Will Not Heat--Preheat Error--Bed and fans work fine
Update: I have checked the fuses (good) and all the connections going onto the board (also good) and still no luck. The hotend will not heat up at all. the only heat that changes the sensor reading is the heat radiating off the bed when i try to preheat.
Re: Hotend Will Not Heat--Preheat Error--Bed and fans work fine
Hello everyone,
Seem that i have the same problem.
the hottend heats up because if I put my hand I can notice high temperatures but the temperature stays at 24 degrees in the screen. And then appear: Preheat Error.

Can you heat the extruder, wait 30 seconds, take a picture of the LCD and post it here.
TIA.

Re: Hotend Will Not Heat--Preheat Error--Bed and fans work fine
I am having a similar problem.
My Prusa i3 MK2S has been working fine for 6 months.
A few days ago the issue started. When I preheat for PLA the bed heats fine, but the hotend starts the preheat and makes it up to around 135 degrees then stops heating.
To solve the problem I changed the entire hotend, heat block, heat element and thermistor...but the same problem continued.
Thinking it might be corrupted firmware, I upgraded to prusa3d_fw_3_1_0 which was just released.
Do I have to change the RAMBo board? This is getting expensive!
What else can I test/change?
Re: Hotend Will Not Heat--Preheat Error--Bed and fans work fine
I figured out why my hotend would not heat up past 135 degrees. I had my heat block directly touching the aluminum heat sink. There should be a couple of mm between then.
Hope this help others...don't do this. However it should have been obvious to me that this was a mistake, after all it is call a heatbreak.
