Heatbed stopped working and pre-heat interrupts after update to fw3.1.0

Hello wise onces! :geek:

I just updated my Prusa i3 MK2 with the firmware 3.1.0 (1.75mm, RAMBO13a) and made the full calibration.

In the middle of next print - it just stopped in the middle of the print (nozzle melting the middle of the project) and "error ed" something like "Hotbed run" - and since then, the hotbed refuse to heat.

➡ I´ve made sure that all wires are whole, firmly connected and soldering looks good.

➡ I´ve re-updated the firmware with 3.1.0 (1.75mm, RAMBO13a).

➡ Neither SD-print or OctoPie gets the heatbed to warm up anything.

➡ The small led at the connecting end of the heatbed that normally blinks happily is totally black/off/kaputt/no more blinking.

➡ Also, when I try to preheat - the display show nozzle (still nothing for the bed) pre-heating for a minute or so - and then the screen flash and resets pre-heat to zero degrees and starts to cool down.

What can be wrong? Is it something that broke in the middle of a print - or is it just to try and rollback an older firmware?

Soooo, frustrating since I just started to get the hang of it! I´ve had this printer for about a month now and really love it.

But now all is on hold... 😯

Hope you have any advice on the matter. Thank you in advance!

Have you made sure the thermistor for the bed still is place under the heatbed? That one sometimes escapes from under the tape.

Good day.
The display shows the temperature and the hotend and hotbed approx. 23 degrees, so the sensor measures the temperature is working. It is quite possible that you have a faulty fuse on (rambo 1.3a board). It does not distribute the hotbed. Check fuses!

I apologize for my English.

Yep, it shows the correct temperature and it was still nicely connected when I looked. 🙂

I will get some spare fuses on my way home later and double-check this. I must admit I did not check the fuses when I opened the "RAMBo- box". 🙂

Thanx!

So,

➡ I checked all fuses - all were fine - but I replaced them all anyway with new ones I bought today.

➡ I`ve re-checked all the wires to the hotbed - all fine

➡ I´ve checked and the thermal for the bed still reads just fine.

➡ I removed the cover and checked the soldering on the hotbed - all fine.

➡ I removed the PEI-sheet I had (I have a spare) and checked for gauges - but nothing other than the tiniest scrape of the coloration.

➡ I turned on and initiated pre-heat and measured for current on the soldering of the hotbed - no current.

➡ I turned on and initiated pre-heat and measured for current directly on the soldering on the controller-board (RAMBo) where the cable-sockets are for the cable to the hotbed - nothing. Even if cables were faulty - I should have gotten a reading here. 😕

➡ Still, since the firmware update and the hotbed failure - it gets the "hickup" a while into the pre-heat (where the bed does not heat up) and shuts down pre-heat. This could be a automatic thing since the hotbed does not heat?

So, anything I have missed? Or is there a way to get to Prusa support directly?

Thank you for your time and effort! 🙂

I was afraid of it, it will burn the mosfet for the hotbed. You can still try or run a hotbed. Disconnect from the rambo 1.3a hotbed on the connector connect the 12v black is - the red strip + and the solenoid it will be the MOSFET on the board.

Is there a problem in your Power Supply Unit? Try checking the connections between the PSU and the Rambo.

Thank you for the advice. After checking that there was indeed voltage coming through from the PSU this morning (all good 12V) - I carefully measured and checked all the connectors again to/from the hotbed and noticed a plastic warp and miscoloration at the tip of the connector for the hotbed (and at the bottom of the socket it is inserted to) - enough for me to think that something is fried - especially since I cannot find any voltage at the soldering-points on the other side of the controller-board, 🙁

Question is - how much is fried and how do I check that? Is it my fault or can be some kind of warranty? What do I need to replace/order? 🙄

See this post for a connection to the plug and socket details, if you are lucky that is all you will need - unless the board itself has been damaged.

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/psu-outside-enclosure-questions-t12430.html#p55681

I am adding a weekly check of that connection to my maintenance plan.
