Heatbed question

Is it normal for the heatbed to stop heating after several layers? Yesterday the heatbed didn't turn on when I attempted to print. After I reseated the heatbed power connector to the rambo board it worked. This morning the same thing happened, the heatbed led light didn't go on. I reseated the blue fuse (15) and it started working again. The power connection and fuse were clean. Now I'm printing and the heatbed turned off after several layers. Is this normal?

It is not normal.
Did you use our preconfigured Slic3r?
Can you upload G-code so we can try running it on ours here?

Re: Heatbed question

Hi

Sounds to me as though it could be the cables moving during the print and working the connector loose. Do you have your heater cable anchored properly at the RAMBo end? And at the heater end? Have you followed the precise instructions for cable management?

Could also be an intermittent break of the wire inside the PVC sheathing (as happened to me a while back), but I think that shouldn't be happening so soon after build.

Peter 😉

Yes, I used preconfigured Slic3r for MK2. I attached photo of rambo heatbed connection. Does that look right? gcode is here:

Now that I review the photo I just took, I realize the 3mm filament isn't stuck inside the case itself so maybe that's the problem? The print is printing fine right now so I'll just wait until it finishes and then push it back in all the way. Thanks.

Re: Heatbed question

Unfortunately, I don't have a Mk2 yet, so it's a bit difficult to tell. The cable tie on the RAMBo housing does look a tad loose though.

I think the 3mm filament may be for the extruder cables only (it was on the Mk 1) and it is extremely important that it is present to support the cables.

According to step 11:

The heatbed cable also has the filament. Since it's not connected it makes perfect sense that the power connector would come loose during a print, I hope that resolves it.

After reinserting 3mm filament into lower section of rambo case and tightening ziptie in upper and lower section the heatbed is now on all the time. I never realized how important the filament was until now. Thanks!

Re: Heatbed question

Looking at the picture small hint on opposite side of the heatbed cables : the zip tie on heatbed cable cover should be placed on the printed part, not just on the spiral wrap. This way it will be much more rigid - check step 17 in manual :
