Heatbed > 468MP adhesive > PEI sheet separation?

I just wanted to let people know my experience with what appears to be some sort of interface adhesion failure between the heatbed & PEI sheet. The conditions which created the problem were as follows: heatbed temp was set to 115C, material was ColorFabb HT co-polymer. 110-115C was needed to get a half decent HT part adhesion to the PEI sheet . The heatbed was allowed to cool down to room temp & the part was easily removed. In the photos, one can see that the PEI sheet lifted off the heatbed at the part corners. I'm guessing that the part was trying to curl off the bed as it was cooling. The PEI held onto the part but the 468MP adhesive did not keep the PEI from pulling away from the heatbed. In any case, it resulted in needing to replace the PEI sheet to regain an even bed surface.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hey yes this same thing happened to me on a print with high infill with colorfabb pla/pha. I didn't replace the sheet though what i did was take a useless card in my wallet and run it back and fourth over the sheet with a small bit of pressure with many passes and repeated a couple times. the bump went down over time i did it as pla temp was cooling down from 55C.

This is an extremely common problem it would seem with the Mk42 bed. I have had the same problem, but I have also noticed that if the bed is left empty and cold the bubbles dissipate after a couple days.

I think that for most people it doesn't cause any major problems, but if you print the same object on the same spot over and over, then the problem will be more pronounced.

I'm not sure if there is a better adhesive to use for this application that is equally removable, but isn't so sensitive to heat.

I have gotten this many times it seems to go away with a few heat cycles. I did the credit card trick and it helped but didn't make it go away.

Seems to be worse when using petg or xt stuff sticks like crazy. Tried to take of abs when it was hot and it was really bad. Now I can't tell where it was.

Yeah good preventative measures would be to build larger objects with a raft and wait for the bed to cool completely.

This problem is not unique to the MK42 bed, it also happens on both my glass beds on two other printers with PEI sheets and 3M adhesive.

Thanks for the feedback folks! On a side note, if anyone is having difficulty obtaining Limonene to remove the 468MP adhesive, I used Goo Gone. It sort of works. It is available from Home Depot if you live in North America. However, it appears to be slower reacting than Limonene & found out that one needs to leave it soak over a 24hr period for the adhesive to completely release. I've ordered d-Limonene two weeks from Amazon but still waiting for it to arrive. The other problem with Goo Gone is that it leaves a bit of an oily-citrus residue so make sure to thoroughly clean the heatbed surface with soapy water & IPA before applying a new PEI sheet.

The principal component in Goo Gone is actually d-Limonene: http://www.cleanersupply.com/products/products/files/SPOT1024_20161017042822_1.pdf

The difference is that they add some other stuff too, which dilutes it a bit. Other than that it's the same. 🙂
