First layer issues

On my MK2S I've had issues since I got it.

Every 20th attempt I manage to get it to work but today I just gave up completely. I feel frustrated.

Doesn't matter if its Prusa control or slic3r, always the same. Sometimes even when printing the same gcode for the second time this will hapen. Now I've been printing multiple parts at the same time and it actually happened during printing. The first layer went completely bonkers again.

The circle is fine then the other part is falling apart mid print. The last z height print was -695 now I had to put it to -800 and it was still horrible.

It's PETG from prusa website and a MK2S preambled.

Ever since I got the MK2S 4 months ago I've had maybe 2 print's I can call really good.

Best regards,

Tomaž

Re: First layer issues

the outer part looks cramped, probably too much -Z

try reducing the -z value and reduce the speed on the first layer to say 30%

whilst the print is progressing, if the plastic rucks up, reduce the live z whilst the print is running, and you should see the surface begin to smooth out. hope this helps.

Re: First layer issues

Forgot to mention. I manually turned the speed down to -50% on this failed attempt on the picture.

I think its something else, because a couple of days ago I did a print and it went fine. The second time I wanted to print the same thing the first layer fell apart. For some reason I decided the fillament needed to be removed and loaded again. Then it was fine, but the third print the same thing happed again, and I unloaded and loded again. Then it was fine for a couple of prints, and then again today, when even reloading didn’t work. I doubt that even helped, it just felt to me like the fillament wasnt being pushed through properly, like the extruder was going to slow (underextruding)

Re: First layer issues

Setting your Live Z correctly is very very very important: Yours is not set well.

I would also master using PLA before moving the PETG. PLA is more forgiving on temperature, and speed. PETG, needs some dialing in and is much more picky. Once you have things dialed in with PLA, do a few calibration tests (Benchy, cubes, etc) to get your PETG settings correct, then you can do more difficult things.

Re: First layer issues

Actually my layer height is great according to my calibration with PLA.

Just PETG is impossible to print for some reason.

You can see in the images the circles are perfect across the heated bed. That's my PLA calibration.

But if you look at some PETG I tried to print right after (Not the calibration, some random thing I found on thingiverse), the first layer is falling appart.

From what I can tell it's a settings issue in Slic3r. In the advanced tab, I've set everything back to 0 (default) from prusa settings and set the layer width to 200%. It was a bit better but not by much.

The temperature and height are good, as I have to really struggle to get those failed first layers of PETG off. They stick way to well.

The problem is the first layer is not extruding enough material I think.

But just for info, the temperature was set to 250 degrees on nozzle and 90 on bed and speed was lowered to 75% ish.

Re: First layer issues

Nozzle was full of junk it seems. Did a cold pull and it works now.

Friend recomended this after to many hours of useless hairpulling -.-
