Firmware Updater Not Working
Trying to update to 3.0.10. PC recognized the printer and says all is well. Lists the port as 3D Printer. Updater only recognizes a few COM ports and a scan turns up COM2 but the printer is not on COM2. Even if I change the printer port from 3D Printer to COM2 I still get a long list of communication error from the updater. I tried rebooting and Pronterface (which doesn't seem to recognize the printer). Why is this so difficult? Thanks for any assistance.
error message in updater:
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout avrdude.exe: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout communicating with programmer avrdude.exe done. Thank you.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Try rebooting the PC and power cycling the printer.

Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Thanks peter. Per some other posts, I had tried that. No dice. Too bad as the printer is otherwise awesome. I'll keep tinkering.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Once again. Try power down all devices, unplug it, then boot again an.

Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Thanks. Tried that again and still not working.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Im fairly sure mine said Com 9 when i did it....
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Mine says COM2 but the printer is not on that port.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Had similar problems, only fix for me was: Power down, disconnect everything connected via USB (and if still present serial ports) except Mouse, Keyboard and the Printer, reboot & try again.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Stephan, thanks. I tried that multiple times and eventually something worked and my firmware was updated. Still really weird b/c I can't explain what happened. I went into settings and changed the port to COM2. Then rebooted and in one place in settings the port had COM2 checked but in printer properties it said COM5. In the updater the only two choices were COM2 and COM5. Eventually choosing COM5 worked. I still have no idea why.

Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Hello all,
Having the same problems trying to update the firmware for my printer. I tried uninstalling all Prusa software and downloaded and installed the newest drivers. I am able to use the printer and can connect in Pronterface but can not detect the printer in the Firmware updater. I checked the device manager and the printer was recognized as com4. I have unplugged all other devices from my computer and still to no avail.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this issue? I have been really impressed with the printer up to this point and the people at Prusa (printer shipped with dead PINDA probe and they replaced the probe in a couple of days) but this issue is becoming a real headache.

Do you have other USB devices hooked up? Make sure nothing else is plugged in but the printer. Usually it should show up as COM5, which should just work. The main way I verify is with the printer unplugged, open up the updater and check what COM ports show up (with nothing connected). In my case I see COM1 and COM2. Plug in the printer, make sure power is on, LCD is on ready screen and give it about 30 seconds. Then check the drop down menu and should see a new COM port (as windows normally will auto-assign it as some things already preconfigured with COM1/COM2 so reassigning can cause a conflict). Select the new port showing and you should be good.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
Shinlocke,
Thanks for the reply. With no devices plugged in there are no COM ports listed when I open the updater. This does not change when I then connect the printer. I am beginning to suspect the USB cable that was supplied with the printer, but this does not explain why I see the printer in my device manager and why I am able to control the printer through pronterface.
Re: Firmware Updater Not Working
I had issues with the updater as well, except it started the upload and then completely shut down with no warning. It kept doing the same thing over and over and the printer was inoperative. I was sure it was bricked.
I ended up using Arduino to update and it worked fine. You might try that approach.
