Extruder upgrade (Universal - Direct Drive OR Universal w/ Bowden)
Hello I bought my Original Prusa i3 MK2 one year ago and I broke the wiring on the thermistor.
So I am trying to upgrade my extruder, and I am missing one vital clue which one to buy.
V6 All-Metal HotEnd --> Universal - Direct Drive OR Universal w/ Bowden
The thing is that when I pulled the MK2 extruder I see a white tube sticking out which makes me thing it is a "Bowden"

I also saw this one which makes me curious and wonder it it would fit the MK2

the gold version seems a bit expensive, bearing in mind it is hidden inside plastic!

Agree with Joan, but I am quite interested in the titanium heat break...
BTW, it's the direct drive version you need.

I got a bit confused because when I pulled the MK2 extruder there is a short white (5 cm?) tube going up.

Correction, I don't think that it is a direct drive the E3D v6 extruder for the MK2.
(I am learning. Extruders are an unknown territory for me)
I see this plastic tube sticking out, it is only a few cm. It has this black lock mechanism and I can only push that plastic tube down.
So I assume that this is a PTFE tubing? Then this would be a Bowden

Sometimes, I do wonder.
Get which one you think is best and let us know if you need a Direct Drive or Bowden.

That was the question, I have no idea what I need. Bowden or direct for my printer to replace that part.
So I assume it can support both?
I never replaced that extruder on the MK2, and I have no experience in extruder (that is why I damaged the wiring).
And I don't find a good parts list what the MK2 contained. I know it was an E3D V6.
I am going for the Bowden.

Interesting I just start to realize that this V6 extruder is not one part to I have to buy complete but is basically a Lego set.
I broke the wire of the heating cartridge, so I can just order it and replace it without complete extruder.
I thought it was stuck in the heat block, the heat block seems very damaged. but just figured out that I have to push a screw driver in the opening, to release it. (The heat block seems to have it deformed and held even after I unscrewed the holding screw.
If I now start to realize the MK2 does not care if it has a direct drive or a Bowden coupling, they both should work.
I also don't need the heat-sink. (I actually thought that this was the heating block, but the heating block is the lower part) heated by this heating cartridge that operates on 12V for the MK2 (24V for the MK3?)
This is my first extruder, be gentle to me 😉

The extruder is made from a number of individual parts.
The easiest to damage is the thermistor. Small diameter tube held in place with a grub screw. Thin leads....
Then there is the heater. Larger diameter tube held in place by two screws .
Either of these can easily be replaced without replacing the extruder heat block or thermal break tube or heatsink or ptfe tube.
Prusa have found that the plug and socket connections near the hot end, are unreliable and now prefer soldered joints.
If you must change the whole extruder. Please be aware that the mk2 and mk2s both use the direct drive extruder.
The ptfe tube is short because it is merely a guide for the filament.
It is not a bowden setup.
