Extruder Thermistor not working

I got my printer 2 months ago and it has been printing fine until today. My print stopped and the screen showed "Thermal Runaway". I turned my printer off and on again, and tried to preheat for PLA and the heatbed and extruder heated up. However the temp on the screen showed that the nozzle heat was still at 31 even though filament was melting out of it. Extruder got so hot it started smoking a little so i turned it off immediately. I checked every connection and I'm sure everything was plugged in and in the right part and all the wires seem to be fine. I also did the self test and my fans are all working.
Can this mean I need to replace my nozzle thermistor connection or is it an issue with the motherboard?

*****furthermore
I have another Prusa i3 MK2S (the same printer as mine) that is set right next to my printer that was purchased around the same time. A similar problem occurred to it just 12 hrs before my printer started experiencing this. The print stopped on that one and the screen also displayed "thermal runaway", and when we preheat that printer the heat bed and nozzle both warm up - however the temperature on the screen for the heat bed stays stagnant even though it is significantly hotter than before. So same thing but with the heat bed instead of the extruder.

the room we are in has about 30 other 3d printers that all run at the same time, so our floor somehow generates a bunch of static electricity that results in our bodies shocking everything we touch (including our printers). Does this shocking have something to do with our printers malfunctioning at the same time?

please help !!!
