Extruder Temperature Fluctuation

Hey everyone, I am new to the group. We received our original Prusa i3 MK2 a week ago and are completely impressed. We did run into a problem, I was having some issue with horizontal striations and noticed the extruder temperature cycling through a wide temperature range. For a model printing at 210c the extruder temp would cycle from 205 to 218c. My other printers normally stay within +- 2 degrees. I was doing some reading and found that inconsistent temp can introduce the horizontal striations. Does anyone know if there a setting to reduce the temperature cycle range?

Re: Extruder Temperature Fluctuation

In the latest firmware there is a PID calibration which will measure how quickly your nozzle hits and cools and will use that in the control algorithm (PID) and will keep the temperature much more stable.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

Thank you Aaron, based off your response I found the PID Tuning instructions. After running through these instruction it is rack solid on the printing temp. Worst case is 1 degree +-. Here is the link to the instructions for anyone else that might need it.
