Extruder Motor Problem
Hello all,
Having a issue that I can't figure out whats wrong with my extruder motor. Every time I try to load it keeps making the noise that it's skipping due to either a jam or the springs are too tight. When I finally think it all good to go, the print fails mid way through due to the motor getting stuck?
I tore the thing apart and still can't figure out whats wrong. Then I tried to "load" with out ANY filament and looked inside and I can hear motor power going to the extruder motor but wont move (watch video) unless I free it by moving it with my hand.
I can easily push filament into the extruder manually and I did make sure the springs are set to around ~14mm while loading in filament. It doesn't seem like it is getting caught on anything too.
Any tips or help I can get would be awesome, thanks!

Have you checked the wireing and connector at the Rambo?
This sounds to me like only one side of the stepper is getting power.
Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cable at the Rambo.

Im having the same issue on a brand new kit i just purchased. The pulley just rocks back and fourth on the load command. The unload command works just fine. Not only have i triple checked connections and wiring from motor to connector for damage, I have even swapped axis points on the main board. The motor does not work for any other axis either. I figure the motor is just DOA, currently awaiting technical supports opinion. Ill post my findings, but I have done all I know to do. 🙁

I had similar issues where the motor would run but I couldn't get it to operate consistently. I finally found the issue to be my fuse. It was blown, but it never separated so my motor would get dirty power meaning it was sometimes too much, or sometimes not enough at all etc. Something to double check and really look at the fuse. I provided a picture of mine as an example.

Fuses ok on my machine. Thanks for your input, ill keep a look out for that in the future.
Support told me to check my connections and if everything looks good there, they will just send a new motor. Seems like my kit motor is dead out of the box. Wait for the first print continues... 🙁

After getting back from vacation, I was able to troubleshoot the issue further. Using a multimeter I found that one of the coils in the motor is bad. The red and blue show no resistance. The black and green show 6.3 ohms. I was able to crack the case open and measure from the solder joint inside the motor to the connector, that part tested fine. Unfortunately it is not worth going any further than this. Just wanted to share what I found in case it helps someone down the line somewhere.

it's not very common that the stepper motor itself is defective, as it is obviously at your site, but it might happen.
in 9 out of 10 cases the wire is damaged, due to assembly issues (sharp edged zip-tie ?) or a badly crimped connector.
and I'm with you: it's not worth trying to go any further (like repairing the motor), a new stepper will cost around 13 bucks.
