Ever wondered how it looks under the nozzle up close?

I mounted a 720p camera 15 mm from the nozzle, it is interesting to see up close what happens under there.
Printed with an chinees ABS that is at least 5 years old from Mbot 3D.

i use such a small endoscope camera for a while now (5.5mm in diameter), together with octoprint, to monitor the printing process.

yes, looking at the camera while printing is really addictive :mrgreen:

I bought a camera (9mm diameter) the last days to build up excaclty the same. I use a WiFi-camara, so I can check the printing with my smartphones 💡

One question : The camera-holder, do you have an STL-file for sharing ? 😉

you can find a few at thingiverse, for example this one or that.
for my small one, i made a redesign (to alter the angle slightly), when i'm back home this evening, i can make it available here as well.

@thomas: btw: with octoprint, and port forwarding at my router, i can watch the camera with my smartphone too... wherever i am online with it :mrgreen:

maybe somebody noticed my little camera before, from my post a month ago:

i can give you my redesign that i made with designsparks mechanical from scratch, then you could alter it as required.

:ugeek: but actually i'm in my office and not at home, so you have to wait a few hours...
💡 in the meantime you could download and inform you about designsparks mechanical (which is freeware), there are a few tutorials at youtube available.

Hi Thomas!
Sure I have a stl. for you. the holder is 2.5mm thick. Change the 18 mm fan screw´s to the 20 mm one´s you find in the spare part´s bag and you are ready to go.

is the diameter 9mm or 9.9mm (as mentioned in the item description @ ebay) ?
quite a nice approach but only a few bucks cheaper than an ordinary endoscope-camera + raspberry.

Yes, the description is 9,9mm.

But if you select the option in the option-box, you see 1m cable only with 9.0mm available.

Carefully lay cable around the extruder. Be sure the cable is not touching the hotend !!!

❓ does the usb-plug at the rambo provides power at all ?

💡 from the usb-point of view, the rambo is a "slave" and should not provide any power.

the usb interface is realized by a dedicated atmega32u2 and an analog device 1kV quad channel digital isolator (ADuM7441).
so, to supply your wifi device, you need to steal +5 V directly from the output of the internal Vcc circuit (at tp32, or the 10µF C45 capacitor).

whether the +5 V Vcc circuit at the rambo 1.3a (realized with an LM25011) will be able to supply the wifi-cam in addition or not depends on how much power the module needs. i would guess up to 100mA will be no problem, because the LM25011 will provide up to 1.5A... but i don't know how current-hungry the rambo itself is.

or, you could use an additional 12V to 5V buck converter module as others here use to feed their raspberrys (with octoprint), then you are at the safe site at all :lol:.

Yes, I think that's the better way (of life).

I will build up an enclosure for the whole printer with fans an UPS. So there is a way to get 5V power supply. Meanwhile I use an mobile-charger to power the camera.

Updated version 😉

Mounting the camera at the left side on the cooler results in rattling and vibrating of the cooler, so I replaced the holder with an version for the right side ;

I removed the grilles completely from the extruder and now the printing is silence as before.

➡ which has another advantage: you can adjust the view angle

❓ but doesn't this holder interfere with the right z-axis when the x-carriage is at the right side ?
