cannot load filament. Support don't know what is wrong

So today i got my new MK2 up and running, everything was great. Got 2 succesfull prints which was pretty cool and then started on my third one, i noticed nothing came out of the nozzle so i stopped the print and told it to unload the filament so i could load it in again (had to do this on my second print) but nothing happened when i pressed unload, like nothing at all. I asked support and she asked if i was able to pull out the filament after pressing unload with only very little force, yea i could. So now i went to load it again but when i press load then nothing happens. Nothing at all. the LCD goes to "loading filament" for all about 0,5 of a second and then goes to "sleep" and then nothing happens. Nothing happens while "sleep" is displayed and nothing happens after. I then tried to preheat the nozzle and tried again, still nothing. support asked about cleaning the nozzle, so i did and then went on to try again and as all other times, nothing happened. It's really frustrating for me that this happens the first day we got the printer running. We just got this printer after our XYZ printer broke down 2 times and got a refund. I was recommened the MK2 on reddit and well got it. Now after 2 pretty good prints this happens, all on the same day. Support couldn't help and i was sent over to the forum here. I can get a video of it tomorrow if needed but it shouldn't really help much as it will be just as i explained "nothing"

Well i hope somebody here might know why it does nothing and hopefully can help me on this. it would be really appreciated

Have a nice day everyone 🙂

Does extruder stepper spin when you run Unload filament or Load filament from menu? Look at its shaft and check that. It can be seen better when the shaft is marked by permanent marker (little dot is enough).
If the stepper doesn't spin, check its cable and connector.
If the stepper spins, does the extruder pulley spin as well?

Re: cannot load filament. Support don't know what is wrong

Hi,

I'm having the same problem (assuming you can load the filament about 10 cm and then it gets blocked/not further pulled and not melted).

My situation is very similar if not the same, i will describe swiftly.
- Unloaded filament to install case
- Tried to reload filament but it gets just pulled in 10 cm and then i hear the rattling sound of the extruder pully as it is turning but not pushing further down.
- I cleaned the nozzle and i can put in the needle till the end like 7cm.
- Combined the 7cm of the needle and the 10 cm of filament that gets loaded are roughly the length of the Extruder so there should be nothing blocking it!
- When unloading the filament the tip is not melted as it should be
- Nozzle is hot and can melt pla, so there is no wireing issue at my part.

I had a couple of questions in my mind while reading your post:

1. Does to motor turn ? Do you hear a rattle sound ?
2. Does the filament gets pulles in about like 10 cm and then you hear the rattle sound and nothing happens further?
3. If motor is not turning, please check wireing!
4. Is the nozzle hot ? If not check wireing
5. Can you put in the needle till the end (preheat first!)?
6. Do you hear a rattle sound when the filament gets pulled in ? Does it even get pulled in in your case ?

Hope this helps and if we are in the same boat, hope we get rescued soon 🙂

sorry for my extreme lack of knowledge, but do you maybe have pictures of what these 2 things are? i have an idea but i'm not 100% sure 🙂

1: yes

2: it doesn't get pulled at all, i can put it down to that rattle sound however

3: it does

4: yes

5: didn't get a needle with my package, i can however put my old "needle" from the XYZ printer all the way in

6: it doesn't get pulled it, but yea i can hear it if i pull it all the way down myself

Re: cannot load filament. Support don't know what is wrong

You guys have a "blocked heatbreak", if I am not mistaken. "rattling sound of the extruder pully as it is turning but not pushing further down" is the common symptom of this. Basically, some filament is stuck just above the heated area. It is preventing the filament from extruding.

Please see if this thread helps :

Ok As you said that the motor is turning (the one with extruder written on it ) but the filament does not get pulled, it reads like your pully is not thight enough, at least that is one of your problems. See Here -> http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/5.+Extruder+Assembly/114 Step 10.

Please check if that gold thing it very firm on the motor shaft 🙂

it worked earlier and it's tightened fine. i'll try this method http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/my-method-of-clearing-the-filament-stuck-in-heat-b-t1148.html#p8657 tomorrow

Re: cannot load filament. Support don't know what is wrong

I had a similar problem. Ended up being a bit of broken filament in the extruder body so it would take the filament a little way down then stop there. I think it happens when you are taking the filament out. Seems a bit stays in there. Luckily I was able to get some pliers and grab a small part of it which was sticking out.

Try and see if you can see down the feeder with a torch. 😉

@ daniel.m7 you said "it's fixed. thanks to everyone who replied :)" The etiquette would be to share the solution with everyone here, in case others have to follow.
