Can I print on 1mm PEI?
I'd like to print on 1mm PEI because I like how durable it is compared to the thin PEI film the Mk2 comes with. Is it possible to edit the .gcode to offset the Z 1mm to account for thicker PEI? Or does that need to be adjusted in Firmware? Trying to figure this out while I save up for Mk2.5 upgrade with new flex bed.

You set the distance from the PINDA to the nozzle using the Live Z calibration procedure. You should be easily able to compensate with that.
The issue with thicker substrates is that the PINDA sensor does not have a long operation range, and you are effectively moving the sensor farther from the bed. But the difference from the existing PEI surface (~0.6?mm?) to a 1mm surface should not be a problem.
The 3mm-5mm surfaces types will not work.
People have done the XYZ calibration without a thicker surface, then added it with a hardware offset. Search this forum for printing on glass. I see no reason to do so.

Thanks for your answer. By "Live Z calibration" do you mean live Z adjust? I tried that but it only goes in one direction, getting closer and closer to bed (ie jamming into PEI).

If you lift the PINDA sensor a bit you will have more adjustment range.

Doh. Tired. Lower the PINDA (but make sure it is still above the nozzle.)

So, I tried lowering the PINDA sensor so it's 0.3mm offset from nozzle tip and it ends up moving paper around during XYZ calibration. Is it safe to go lower than this? Seems like I'm getting in the range where the PINDA could start dragging on prints.
Perhaps I should have mentioned I'm trying to easy way out and putting the 1mm PEI on top of the PEI film it shipped with. Is that just too thick?

Yes. Too thick. That makes it nearly 2mm thick. Unless you get a more sensitive PINDA (they exist - but likely at the expense of precision) I don't see yo being able to do that.

Thanks a lot both for your help! I went back to the PEI film it shipped with, and was definitely a relief after hassling with trying to get it to work. Can't wait for the Mk3 bed upgrade!
