bearing play and rail quality

I've noticed I have a bit of bearing play in the Y axis (bottom rails) the X bearing only have minimal play.

On closer inspection it seems the the rail material/finish between the X and Y is different,
The Y rails feel much rougher and is smaller in diameter, the Y rails measures just under 7.8 (measured with micrometer) and the X rails are 7.9

have anyone else noticed a difference between the rails and bearing play?

Problems with y-axis bearings is probably the most reported issue here in the forum. Make sure your frame is square, axes perpendicalur, try a good amount of lithium grease on the bearings and if you're still having issues, consider replacing rods and/or bearings.

(That's what I ended up doing, as mine were garbage.)

I also noticed the zip ties that hold the bearings on the Y wobble a bit. I put just a dab of JBWeld between the bearing housing and mount to keep them from moving.

staphan.k - what did you upgrade our rods and bearings with? links appreciated!

Re: bearing play and rail quality

I am currently using:

Prusa Stock bearings and rods on Z-axis.

Igus RJZM-01-08 for Y-Axis
Igus RJ4JP-01-08 for X-Axis
both on with Igus AWMP-08 rods, all ordered from http://www.igus.com . Rods where wiped with a slightly oily cloth before install, don't overtighten the zipties on Y

After about 3 months use of the Igus bearings & rods, i am still very happy with the lack of noise as well as print quality.

(I've also tried a set Misumi LM-8 on stock rods, but decided to use the Misumi on a different printer in the end. Not because they were bad on the MK2, simply because the other printer needed them more urgently.)
