Anyone want to buy a 1-month old MK2?

We opened up the box and set this printer up on June 13 (was pre-assembled). It has been way more work than we ever expected, based on reviews we'd read. After only 3-4 successful prints we have had issue after issue and don't have the expertise or time to deal with it. Anyone in the Chicago/Milwaukee area interested in purchasing this from us? We've replaced the heat-break and nozzle already and have some of the parts for other hot-end fixes should they be needed. The printer bed is gouged from trying to run an auto-calibrate after replacing the nozzle, but I'm sure that's easily replaced.

Sad to hear your having such a pain with your printer 🙁

I would advise you to first create a post explaining all your issues as clear as possible, providing pictures or even video's.
A lot of people here are very knowledged and can identify your issue sometimes immediately.

But if you really don't have the time for this -I do however not advise to start with 3D printing then- I'm sure there are some people willing to buy your printer.

I agree completely with Tom. There is a learning curve - which often results in some damage (it did for me) - but once you have it sorted out (FIRST LAYER IS THE KEY) I have found this to be a very robust machine. If you are willing to try a bit more it might be rewarding.

If not, and you really do want out, do you still have the original shipping box so that people outside of your general area might purchase it? Or find a local maker space and post it there. This is a great machine and I am sure someone would be thrilled to have it.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

especially when you consider the lead times for an ordinary prusa order.

Re: Anyone want to buy a 1-month old MK2?

I was just recently asked for a printer recommendation.

None of these hobby-grade printers is ready for consumption. That includes the i3 Mk2, which I do consider among the best in the category.

But they're simply still not ready for wide consumption and I cannot in good conscience recommend them to anyone who values their home, their life, and most of all, their sanity.

That said, jeffjordan has a good point about the lead times. I'm sure someone who does have the inclination to work the kinks out of an Mk2 would be happy to jump in line and pick one up. In fact I'd consider picking it up myself if I were local as I would like to do a 2nd rebuild.

Good luck!

I would guess it might go pretty quickly on ebay but of course you won't get what you put into it. Much of what I read before I got into 3D printing warned that it's not just plug-and-play. They were correct. Not unlike learning to play the piano, there's definitely a steep learning curve and it's not a good thing to get into if you don't have the time or inclination.

Thanks for the responses. I do have the original box and styrofoam (I believe all of it) but still hesitant to ship it. Definitely didn't realize the time commitment this machine, or 3D printing in general, would require. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

Sorry, Tom. Just saw your PM. Unfortunately it seems I cannot reply to a PM. There's no reply button and when I tried to simply compose a message it says I haven't been on the forum long enough to enable that feature. I just joined last week. That's a little frustrating. I'm waiting to hear back from Prusa to see if I can return the machine to them and how much of a refund I would get. Not sure I'm confident enough in my packing abilities to ensure it would arrive safely to a buyer if I were to send it to them. At least Prusa should be able to handle any issues that may occur during shipping. It's been a few days since I contacted them.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
No problem, didn't know new users couldn't pm from the start.
If you have the original box and all foams, you should be fine. However clipping all the parts back together as it was when you received it would be best.
But chances are big I would probably disassemble the printer at least a bit to get it as perpendicular as possible, so small miss alignments because of shipping won't really be a problem. (as long as it doesn't get damaged)

If Prusa isn't willing to do a refund, I'm absolutely interested in buying yours. Got a small company and an order open for a new kit, but will need a few more printers anyway. Getting it a little cheaper from you and mainly quicker is something what is interesting me 😉

Please let me know whatever you pleases and how everything ends, maybe also a good thing to ask them is to already activate your PM'ing feature. Because I won't post my email or address here in public.

Tom
