yet another topic for PVA issues

Hi there,

FW: 3.1.0
Slic3r: 1.38.5 , 1.38.6 and lesser versions
Material: RS Components PVA, PrimaSelect PVA, AprintaPro PVA-M

The issue is simple really, the PVA is not sticking, tried:

- default profiles
- reduce the printing speed to a bare minimum
- reduce/increase the temperature
- increasing the extrusion multiplier
- other materials
- different FW, Slic3r versions

Nothing helped.

Color printing is usually working all right, the issue is with the PVA. 80% of the prints fails.
The material is stored in an IKEA plastics box with lots of silica gel inside.
Since I bought the MM upgrade only for a water soluble support and it's not working, I'm desperate. Any tips?

Kind Regards,
Daniel

Re: yet another topic for PVA issues

Not sure if it will help with your brands of PVA, but for me I had to add cooling. I doubt that is recommended for all PVA brands. I think the defaults in slic3r were to run the PVA with no cooling but I set it to the PLA cooling values. All other settings except my retraction settings were default. I was however using Esun PVA. It worked better but not great. Adhesion to PLA isn't very strong. I find I don't even need to soak in water to take the supports off which probably means the supports probably aren't going to hold things in place very well.

I think a lot of people say to increase the temp to get better adhesion to the PLA and the bed. I think its sort of a double edge sword, you get better adhesion the hotter you go but you'll get more oozing / stringing.

There was a thread here that had more information: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-multi-material-f26/pva-recommendations-t4982.html

I gave up on PVA after a couple of attempts. Switched to BVOH. That prints a lot nicer and faster.
