Stepper Motor Going the opposite / wrong way
Hi There,
I got this week the MM Kit and just finished installing it. I have run all the calibrations and everything seems to be fine the V2 Calibration file is beeing printed correctly. Then I tried to make a file with some very simple geometrical shapes and print it but it did't work. Here is what I did and what happens:
- Before you ask (firmware is up2date and I am also using the new Slicer for MM - I wanted to print with only one color
1. donloaded the STL and sent it thru the Slicer -> gCode to SD Card
2. Loaded the filament
3. inserted the sd and strted the print
4. heatbed temp - OK / Extruder Temp - OK
5. NOW here is the interesting part: After all temp's are ok he dose the calibration and starts "printing" but nothing comms out. And this is because the stepper motor is going in the opposite direction. Instead of pushing the filament twords the extruder it is pulling it out. After a couple of minutes the whole filament was out (but on the wrong side - he came out the way he entered)
Any idea what I am doing wrong? - I also sent a email with a video to Prusa but until now now answer, let's hope I get one 😉

I suspect that you've got the wrong motors in the wrong sockets. Since the motors are not coded clockwise and anti-clockwise but have the filament going one on left hand side and one on right the direction must be controlled in the circuit.

Double and triple checked - the wiring is OK. Why would the V2 Calibration gCode be working fine (witch it dose with the same Stepper motor) and my files are not. I suppose it has something to do with how the file is created or interpreted.

Check if you have M83 command in the g-code start script (it must be located somewhere at the beginning before G1 commands). Are you using the latest drivers?

I have two questions 🙂
1) Did you try to print any of Prusa's Multi Material G-codes? Was it ok?
2) What profile in Slic3r are you using?

Same thing happened to me. Do NOT forget to run your gcode through the post processor. That fixed it for me. Even if only using 1 material. Run through post processing or extruder will run in reverse.

Oh, I forgot you are still using post processor (its integrated in the Slic3r now - from 1.35.1).

I think that the picture showing port numbering in step 1 of the assembly manual http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/4.+Electronics+Assembly/364 shows the ports in revers order. I ran into this issue too during the assembly. Port numers should be 4,3,2,1 from left to right.

OK, just to be clear the extruders are numbered from the left when looking at the front of the printer and with the case fixed to the printer, M0 is the lowest motor connector socket.
So the extruder motor closest to the switch case (E1) goes into the bottom motor connector (M0).

I finally figured it out thanks to you guys . . . I did run it thru the Post Processor but I used the wrong file. I thought that the PP is overwriting my file but instead it is creating a new one with MM in the name (ex: original file abcd.gcode and after the PP abcdMM.gcade). And yes the PP hase to be used even if you wnat to print with only 1 color:
TEST OK WITH ONE COLOR

1. Don't work when your tiered and haven't sleep for 20 hours 😀
2. If you encounter any problems . . . put it in the forum (they will know what to do)

OK, just to be clear the extruders are numbered from the left when looking at the front of the printer and with the case fixed to the printer, M0 is the lowest motor connector socket.
So the extruder motor closest to the switch case (E1) goes into the bottom motor connector (M0).

I see there are port numbers on the on the switch from botom M0 to M3 on top. This is how I set it up during the assembly. But then I had to reconnect to operate the extruders in proper way E1 on left to M4 on right. I will double check today not to confuse anyone...

I have one (small) problem with MMU. Extruder 2 and 3 going to opposite direction. Extruders 1 and 4 are just fine.
Any solution?
