Hi all,

First of all I managed to install the MMU upgrade without issues, I printed the first 2-3 days some presliced gcodes from Prusa and the results where very nice.

However at the moment I'm having quality issues, the layers are way to visible when printing at 0.2mm and it's not accurate. the corners are really rough and overhangs aren't that great.
I've tried printing only in 1 color, but it gives me the same results.
I used the standard settings in the prusa MMU slic3r, and tried printing at different temperatures (PLA at 205 - 215 and ABS at 240 - 255) but the results where the same



Does anyone have any suggestions? Since the presliced gcodes work well I'm pretty sure it's not hardware related.
But I guess that using the default settings in the MMU slic3r should provide me decent results, which atm it doesn't.
I've also tried multipple brands of filament which all worked fine with the presliced gcodes, but not when I slice them.

Will do some more testing and try S3D again maybe (for 1 material only) and check what results I do get then.

You don't have "Pressure Advance" turned on by mistake do you?

If not, then it looks like an extrude issue. Are the filament tensions too tight? Are the spools feeding smoothly? Are you using the correct/latest Slic3r profiles?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply.
As told before I used the standard settings in Slic3r when installed from the driver package from Prusa. At the moment this should be the latest version (1.35.5)
Also the Pressure Advance setting is one I cannot find, I googled it and there where some people telling it should be under printer settings and then general, but I wasn't able to find the setting.
But again, I haven't changed 1 setting yet in the Slic3r since I wanted to test first how well the default settings do print.

Then regarding your questions, the filament tensions aren't to tight and the spools do actually feed smoothly. Because using the same filament with the presliced gcodes from prusa this issue doesn't occur to me. So I'm not really getting it.
The first time I thought it would be some kind of setting so I uninstalled the software and then downloaded the latest version again, but this gave exactly the same results.

Make sure you are using the new MMU version of the printer setup for Slic3r. The main issue is that the retraction setup used for the Mk2/S does not work for the MMU. Now I have very clean prints.

It is the new MMU version;
What I noticed is, those parts I printed first with 0.35mm layer height which caused these issues. At 0.2mm they are already much better. (Printed in ABS)
I will be tweaking my settings more and hopefully get nice results then.

Quite honestly, I wasn't aware that it was possible to print with this setup at that height. Even so, 0.35mm layer heights is more than the 80% of nozzle width which is generally recommended and will generate poor quality prints. And then there are further issues.

The amount of filament being printed at that height requires significantly higher temperatures and pushing force. That pushing force can cause damage to the Festos - I have had about 8 Festos give up when printing at 0.25mm layers with 0.5mm width printing PLA at 220 degrees (usual is 205). Since I finished that project, not a single Festo has broken.

Regarding the festo's, where did you order them? Now I heard that I'm going to order some spares, since I can't afford it to have a non working printer.

Festo have branches in most countries; I only found that out after I ordered from Germany at at very high price on eBay. There is of course the chinese option as well. I now have a good supply of both.

And I have queried the 0.35 layer setting. till waiting on a response. It really is not something I would use; the maximum I go to is 0.32 and then only when running variable layer heights.

The default settings for the layer height of 0.35mm extrude thick lines. The settings is correct and tested.

I mean the settings is tested, but it is a "draft" mode, so a lower quality is to be expected.
