MMU & Octoprint

Hi Guys. Been printing for a long time and have had the MMU kit sitting on the side for a long time. But today I installed it. and have it working.

My only issue is with slicing my own files with prusa control it seams to put a pause command in after the initial priming. which throws octoprint into a spin. It pauses rather than waits for input then when it resumes it doesn't start properly.

Has anybody experienced this? I cant be the first? Is it my pause script in octoprint, what should I have as a pause script. or should i not bother with prusa control and stick to slic3r?

I believe there is a resume button in octoprint.

Do you really want this? I would suggest to make it reliable work with Slic3r und SD card. Once you have that, do the next steps.

Not sure what you mean about "a spin"? I use OctoPrint with my MK2S-MMU and after priming the required extruders the printer will pause make a squealing sound and OctoPrint will display a "Resume" button in place of the "Pause" button. Click on that and you are good to go.

Also not sure what you mean by "my pause script"? I use both PrusaControl and Slic3r to generate gcode and they will embed the pause/resume into their gcode. I have never added any additional gcode in OctoPrint to handle this.

OctoPrint while priming extruders:

OctoPrint while paused and waiting for user interaction:

Note: The pause, as mentioned in the official documentation, is to insure that all of the extruders are ready to print their filament when called upon. If yo do not see a prime print for each extruder you are using the you should cancel the print and reload filament(s).

I would also recommend increasing the "Communications Timeout" setting out OctoPi/OctpPrint to give you more time to hit "resume". If you don't get to it in the default short time, Octoprint will time out and cancel everything, leaving the nozzle in a bad state.

You can hit "resume" from Octoprint, but it is is worth looking to make sure all of the colors primed.

Because the "end" state on the MMU is different than a single extruder, you should get the "end gcode" from Slic3r and put it in the Octoprint's "After print job is cancelled" GCODE section. This will make sure that if you cancel a print with Octoprint, that it leaves the filament in a retracted position and will prevent jams.

With those two modifications, Octoprint works great with the MMU.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

Re: MMU & Octoprint

Hello,

I have read this a few times and I'm curious if anyone has found a way to get past the pausing and asking if the filaments have all primed. Or is this a necessary for MMU V2? Sorry I know this post is bit dated but can't seem to find a lot of info on this.
