MK2S Multi w/Olsson Ruby nozzle

I have the MK2S and the Multi-upgrade to arrive in the coming weeks. Not understanding much about the extruder differences, I would like to know if my Ollson Ruby nozzle can be used with the upgrade.

Does it fit at all?
Has anyone tried it?

as far as I know, the ruby nozzle will work with the multi media upgrade.

but you really only need it if you are using abrasive filaments.

I do try other and abrasive prints just for fun and I figured with the Ruby, I mostly save time not changing nozzles. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the ruby does work, but you may have to use slightly higher temps (I think +5 degrees has been mentioned).

Someone said that abrasive filaments cannot be used in the MMU. The trouble with the release of the MMU was that the heat break wasn't smooth enough? Abrasive filaments would eliminate the smoothness of the heat break and cause issues.

I'm not an expert, it was just something someone had said. I'd like to know if it was true or not.

Thanks for the response. I'd hate to ruin my heat break. I just received second MK2 to set up as multi but the issue you bring up would be a real concern to me.

Re: MK2S Multi w/Olsson Ruby nozzle

You are aware that someone once said that the earth was flat?

The heat breaks are stainless steel; it would take a whole shed load of "abrasive" filament to cause problems. And they are not that expensive.

Yes abrasive filament will eventually wear down, the nozzle (even the "ruby"), the heat break, the PTFE tube, the motor drive pulley, the bowden tube etc. but these are all "consumables" and expected to wear.

Thanks for the clarification on the wear. I like trying out different filaments so I'm glad to hear it isn't excessive.

I'm also glad to finally find out that the earth is flat....kinda like my heat bed so that makes so much sense to me. I have to be very careful getting close to the edge. 🙂
