First Layer After MMU

Having issues getting glass like i was before I did the MMU on the first layer. See pic, blue failed print was what bottom layer was before and black piece is what it is now. Thought z height was too far so I lowered and received what is in pic with only black piece as a top layer.

I always used S3D before but have been using Slic3r since the MMU since it's the only one that supports the Prusa post processor for multi materials natively.

I'm no printing expert but does it look like under extrusion and not z height? I'm thinking it's not z height because based on top layer it looks too low.
In the pic with the blue piece the black piece is smooth just missing some lines....
It doesn't seem like there is an issue with the extruder feed, i.e. no obstructions, easy to pull, etc.

Figured I would ask here before I went and tried S3D since MMU.

Thanks.

Re: First Layer After MMU

It looks like you should adjust your z height better, so it will squeeze the filament a bit.
I get perfectly smooth bottom surfaces with the MMU.

Is your top surface off the same quality? If so, it could indeed be under extrusion.

Yes it is for the most part.
See in the pics I posted, the pic that has the blue thing is a bottom layer and the one without is the top layer.
The blue thing is just a reference to what bottom later I was getting prior, same filament.

How many top and bottom layers have you set up in those prints? if those are 3-4 + it should be sufficient.
What materials did you use to print and at what temperatures? Have you tried some other filaments?

Are you using the latest Slic3r from prusa with their default settings?

5 layers top and bottom
PLA - 215 first layer, 200 for rest, yes essentially same issue with other filaments and filament types (ABS).
Latest Slic3r and default

Re: First Layer After MMU

I do not yet have my MMU, so take with a HUGE grain of salt. But I have had first layers that look like glass and ones that look like your MMU. The difference was in settings: 1) Live Z, 2) Extruder Calibration (flow), 3) Temperature. And some variability in filament brand/color (but not this much).

Re: First Layer After MMU

Extruder calibration is not usually needed with the MM drive pulleys; they are pretty accurate.

So that really leaves temperature (first layer 215 for PLA) and bed.

As well as the Live Z there are a few excellent threads on the main board regarding bed level correction.

Y bearings were messed up. Added a little 3in1 oil and back to normal. Still some fine tuning left but close enough to what it was prior to MMU.

Can you explain this fix? You lubricated what exactly?
