Festo components

Hi,

The Festos on the head and the extruder motors screw into some threaded component that was alreay in the printed part (ie. I didn't assemble them form the kit, they were already in the printer part). Purchase of spare Festos does not include this 'screwing-into' part; does anyone know what is it called / where can I get them?

Thanks,
K

He means the metal parts in the plastic multiplexer that you screw the Festo couplers into. I don't know what they're called either

How about "Threaded Brass Insert": https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=threaded+brass+insert&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjwn7nHndXWAhWJC5oKHUEaB3IQsAQIRg&biw=1520&bih=962

Hi,
Sorry, I've been unable to get to a computer for the last week... Thanks ceryen for stepping in to clarify my question 🙂

So, they're called Threaded Brass Inserts... I take it Prusa doesn't sell them as spare parts, so I'll have to find them elsewhere - any specifications for those used in the MM extruder unit? Like thread size, external diameter, length etc? I could try and get one out the MM unit myself, but I don't want to turn my machine into a three- instead of four-colour printer by accident!

The reason I'm chasing all these obscure spare parts (cooling tubes, festos, brass inserts, etc.) is because I live in a remote location, in a country approximately 10 years behind the rest of the world. If something breaks that I can't fix, it takes a week to get the replacement parts sent out here, longer if they come from Europe/America (which they usually do). Hence I have learned to keep parts on hand, even if it's only to ensure that "if I've got it, I won't need it".

Sorry 'bout the rant, I just felt an explanation was needed. I get the feeling not many people ask about spare brass inserts...

Thanks,
K

Re: Festo components

the visible thread is 5mm diameter, (M5), where the festo's screw in, what the plastic interface, is, is beyond me...
maybe if you can find the STL's you will be able to make a good guess!

I also was in the need of those brass inserts because I've messed up the original. The ptfe tube was stuck in it.
I've printed a replica of the original brass insert using the PLA but it did not hold , the threads were too short.
Then I've contacted Prusa as to where I can buy those exact same inserts here in US, instead
they are sending me a new replacement.
Good customer support on their part.
While waiting for it, I've bought an M5 insert from the local hardware store and glued it upside down using E6000.
I need to extrude another 10mm after loading that particular extruder because of additional length.
It holds so far and should hold for a long time.
As the attached picture.

Re: Festo components

You could adjust the length of the bowden tube within firmware.

Factory reset and from the menu, select the bowden tube length option.

Quick fix until you get the correct part.

Re: Festo components

Hi folks,

This seems to be like the part you were looking for.

http://www.theinsertcompany.com/brass_multi_micro_inserts_for_plastic.php

Right ?

If someone wants to order there gimme a shout-out I like to have spares on hand too.

For mounting: I'd cut the head off of a M5 screw (or use a piece of M5 threaded rod) in a soldering iron to heat up that nut and melt it into the plastic - problem is that the soldering iron will dump more heat into everything. So maybe just heat the nut on the screw with a torch or something (or put it in the oven take it out and insert it - while you're in the kitchen you could use the tap water to cool this off quickly). That sound like a plan.

Cheers, Richard

Re: Festo components

What are the right dimension for the treaded brass inserts?

I wrecked mine from the original upgrade kit and I reprinted the part in ABS (I just don't feel comfortable with the PETG)

Thanks,
Achim

Re: Festo components

Has anyone ordered some from a vendor? I would like to get some, but a company in Germany only sells x100pcs. Anyone interested in also obtaining? I would order a batch and then send them around for parts and shipping costs...

Here. German and interested.

You should post this offer also in the German part of the forum.
