Copper/Bronze/BrassFill on the MMU

Has anyone else tried these filaments (in single filament config) on the MMU?

I am having huge issues printing CopperFill at the moment. It's starting to look as though the changes to the heat break may be causing issues, although it is possible that I may have a bad spool of filament.

Yes, I printed BrassFill. No problems at all.

Use Slic3r profiles. 🙂

What problems do you have specifically?

What problems do you have specifically?

Blockages when printing; in the heat break just at the point where the heat break meets the heat sink.

Heat creep is very bad with metals and the filament is simply filling the void, solidifying and sticking to the heat break.

I have set 0 retraction, tried temps from 180 through 225 and speeds from 10mm/s through 60mm/s.

Blocks almost every time.

I suspect a bad spool of filament but I will try on my other printer and then open my second spool.

I have installed some insulation between the heat block and the heat break cooling fins.

In theory this should help your problem. But since I don't have a reliable way to create clogs, I don't know if this theory holds up in practice.

Aaron, thanks for this. I did find it more reliable printing at 255 degrees with more heat crept upwards which kept the filament soft.

It looks very much as though I have resolved the problem now. I switch to my older MMU printer and it's just working. 200 degrees and high-ish flow rates.

In theory I have 2 printers which are set up identically and they have both produced the same result in the past (except the old one has worn bearings and a bit of bed wobble). But there has to be some hardware difference between the two; I don't know what that difference is and right now, I don't particularly care...

Wow... not to necropost to a thread but damn that looks amazing! Is there a site with info on working with metals in 3dprints? Does it need hardened nozzles like the carbon fibre stuff?

I'm still new to all of this but that looks absolutely gorgeous!

I'm still new to all of this but that looks absolutely gorgeous!

It looks even better now, after a polish and being left for a few days.

I actually printed that with a standard brass nozzle; I put my hardened steel nozzle in the other printer and when it would not print, I just moved over to this printer. I guess I screwed the nozzle, but it still seems to be printing OK...
