Cooling tube removal on single color
Can I remove the cooling tube when doing a single color print ? I'm trying Proto Pasta "glitter flake" and it's diameter varies due to the metallic flakes. Makes it want to stick in the tube. Thanks !
Re: Cooling tube removal on single color
If you do, you will allow additional flexing of the filament during print.
Also note that the internal diameter of the PTFE tubing is less than the steel cooling tubes.
Sounds as though you have a very bad roll (or maybe poor quality) filament. Any glitter filaments I have used generally conform to the 1.75mm +- specified tolerance.
A filament diameter which varies so much will not print well - the larger diameter will be well over-extruded.

Re: Cooling tube removal on single color
Thanks for the quick response ! This printed fine on several prints in the MK2s, where is the difference in the MMU ? It binds in the tube, but if I remove it your saying it will bind in the PTFE because it's smaller. Is the PTFE on the MK2s larger maybe ?
Re: Cooling tube removal on single color
Yeah, the ID of the PTFE tube in the non-MMU is regular 2mm. MMU PTFE is 1.85mm.
Look, it's worth trying, but the filament diameter should not vary more than 50 microns for nominal.
I can give you all the theory you want, but you are the one with the filament - test it out.
