Can I use my MK2S hot end in place of hot end that shipped with MMU?
After upgrading my MK2S with the multi-material upgrade, calibration went fine, but my first print (unattended during the crucial time) resulted in the print coming un-stuck, dragged by the nozzle, mixed with the wipe tower, and producing a huge mass of plastic slag that covered the hot end nozzle and the wires. Unfortunately, there was no way to remove the slag without damaging the thermistor wires at the body.
I still have my MK2S hot end, since the multi-material upgrade shipped with a new hot end. Can I use the MK2S hot end in place of the trashed MMU one? Is there any difference in the characteristics between the two? They look identical, except for the clip on the thermistor wires being a slightly different style.

The main difference is the heat break and PTFE tubing; but both these should be OK.
Just swap the heat block and components.

I just got my MMU in the last few days. I was pre-reading the instructions and noted that the kit includes a new hot end.
I kind of like having some spare parts laying around in case something goes wrong (usually meaning I did something stupid). I have enough spare hot end parts to build almost 2 complete hot ends. I looked through the Prusa E store and the E3D web site. But I don't see any parts listed as specifically for this new version of the hot end.
Does anyone know where I can get the special heat break and PTFE tubing?

I bought the tube here: https://www.filastruder.com/products/capricorn-ptfe-tubing . It is now on it's way to Holland. Hope it will solve my jamming problems. Tube has the special id 1.85 mm.

This is the answer I’ve got from the Prusa support:
So you used the new hotend provided with the Mutli Material upgrade if I got it right, very well, then you switched back to the previous hotend for printing in single mode. Please avoid this, the heatbreak is a different one. The standard heabreak caused the long delay in the development indeed, it won't work. Just make sure the heatbreak is marked in red to make sure it's actually the one for Multi Material!
To be honest.... after changing to the new MM hotend - successfully printing seems to be a gamble! 🙁
Anyone else with same issues or probably someone with a SOLUTION??

The Multi Material heat break has different internal geometry to make it easier to change materials. You can, swap it out for a normal V6 heat break, this may prove a hindrance to the material change function, but will not have negative effects on any other part of the system and the material change should still work.

Something else which may be of interest. During the beta testing the earlier stages used the regular heat breaks. I had no problem with tool changes, but some others did. When the new heat breaks were issued, I wa very reluctant to swap it out. I did and saw no difference.
However, on a second printer, I had better results when using the original heat break from the first printer than with the modified heat break.
My conclusion was simply this: the heat break modification did not make a lot of difference; it is the manufacturing process which determines whether the heat break will work as expected or not. Heat breaks are drilled from both ends; I understand that this is necessary in order to be able to machine them. Problems arise when the hole drilled from the lower end does not exactly meet the hole drilled from the upper end. The modified slightly larger hole (2.1mm) in the upper end is designed to allow the lower hole to have a little more tolerance - but it doesn't always work out.

I’ve swapped back to my original MK2S hotend with some interesting findings:
1. With the new hotend it was nearly impossible to run a print, MM or even single color printing is a gamble.
2. Clogging starts directly after the hotend, not even during color change.
3. With the MM hotend it was necessary to heat up to 240C temperature to get the nozzle printing.
If trying to print with lower temp (200C-220C) the nozzle gets blocked before printing the first line.
4. If printing the benchy with 240C it went fine to approximately 85% but as soon as the extruder lower the speed, clogging issues started in 100% of the trials, independent of which settings regarding extraction or spring setting or speed or anything else I’ve chosen.
5. Problem also occurred with good quality filament like Hatchbox or the original silver from Prusa.
6. I’ve also tried to fix, check, recheck and to optimise the PTFE tube after the hotend with absolutely no success!
With the original MK2S hotend - all the issues are gone! Heating up to 205C, loading filaments (doesn’t matter if cheap or expensive), running prints in slow and fast speed —- everything works like before and perfect! Setup is running still as a bowden extruder because that fact is not the issue Prusa have with MM.
I’ve take the decision to open a claim to Prusa to get back my money I’ve spent for the upgrade due to the fact that’s not working reliable and predictable!
And to be honest...there are plenty options to do a multicolour print without the MM upgrade from Prusa!

When you swaped back to original MK2 hotend which PTFE tube did you use? Did you use the original MK2 and shortened it to the desired lenght or did you put the PTFE tube from MMU hotend?

I am also interested in your findings, I have TONS of issues with new hotend, I also have to use much higher temperatures (like 30° above the ones I used with MK2S without MMU) but still have a lot of issues.
Will try to use the old hotend and keep you updated but for the moment, I have to say the new hotend is a total failure, maybe I'm just unlucky but according to dozens of reports, Prusa must admit there is a problem with it.
