textured plate
I purchased a textured plate for my MK3 because two parts of my project would look nice with a textured finish. The printer has been working flawlessly with the flex steel plate. When I do a first layer calibration with the textured plate the purge layer goes down nicely. But when it goes to the actual test with the single line print with the descending right angles where it is suppose to end with a little square I get NO filament laydown at all. There is a tiny bit of filament stuck to the nozzle but really not much. I tried raising the extruder but that did not change anything. What am I missing?

My textured sheet is a little thinner than my smooth sheet and I had to lower the Z. If you raised your Z you might be going the wrong way.

Well I thought about that but why would the purge layer go down nicely and than nothing for the rest of the print. I'll keep messing with it...........

From my limited use, I found I can't tell much from that purge strip. You really need to do a Z calibration. I use the built in one, but many use the Life Z posted on here many, many times.

Bingo. The purge line is not a good tell for the right Z offset. You have to use the other lines. If they move or are rounded, you are not low enough. If your rectangle does not come up as a single piece with no slits, then you are not low enough.

Just a bit more detail: the purge line is printed entirely by commands inserted into start gcode. As such, none of your slicer settings are applied to the purge line. To see how your actual prints will adhere, you want to view the results produced by slicer-generated gcode. Unless all you want to print are purge lines!
If the purge line is blowing away or wiggly, or if the extruder clicks madly while printing the purge line, that's a good hint something is amiss. That's about all you can reliably glean from the purge line.

Good news. Going to opposite direction and ignoring Z calibration can be a disaster. Textured to smooth can sure leave a deep gouge in the plate.
