Multi Material Wiper Block Exclude

Has anyone tried to set the Slic3r to print the infill first, then perimeter and subsequently excluded the wiper block in Pronterface using the G-Code excluder? The goal is to use the infill to purge the nozzle (if the volume inside is large enough) with the infill and reduce the waste? Would excluding this G-Code cause issues with retracting the first filament and inserting the second? Is the filament switch executed in G-Code or Firmware?

In regards to the above post, I would like to assume the print is large enough to clean the nozzle with the infill. Secondly, I would like to assume the material and manufacturer are the same. Only the color changes.

And where would you put the pressure cooling purge before the unload?

Or would you just ignore that part, allow bad stringing to happen on every tool change and cause blockages and failed prints?

Well, those are two excellent questions. I am in the process of upgrading my MK2S to the MM and am researching the additional print time required to perform an adequate change. To me that is a bit more important that the purge material.

I am familiar with the Slic3r and have used this to print a lot of ABS. I recently read your post in the "Bleeding of Colors Solution" string and found you are using KISS instead. When reducing the size of the block, did you have luck with print time?

Thanks

Yes, I use KISS and I wrote and published the Post Processor for that slicer which works with a variety of MM solutions.

Yes, reducing the purge volume does marginally increase the speed. No it does not make a major difference to the time taken to print a model.

KISS + my post processor was (last time I tested) about 15% faster than Slic3r for a 4C Adalinda with a purge tower about 20% lighter.

A lot of the time, however, goes on the unload/load process.

If you don't have the time, source a different MMU solution. A 4-nozzle solution may work significantly faster.

.. am researching the additional print time required to perform an adequate change.

Please define "adequate change". And what colours you will be using and how highly pigmented are those colours? Also are you intending to use transparent, translucent with opaques?

Example: If a bright yellow follows a dark green (eg PR Metallic Green), you will need in excess of 250 mm^3 purge on the yellow and it will still print greenish.

{but there are things happening to help with this...}

Re: Multi Material Wiper Block Exclude

Peter,

Thank you for the replies! After some experimentation, the printer may converted back to the MK2S, but I wanted to give the MMU a try with Prusa first. I have very good results with his products.

I had a chance to look through the KISS forums and have seen your posts there. They are also very helpful. Again, thank you.

In regards to the colors, I will not be printing with the translucent, transparent, or metallic filaments. There will be large differences in color, but most of my stuff has large areas of color, not just eyes or locks of hair on a figure, for example. I am planning to use this for outlining high and low pressures, possible areas of cavitation, and other such stuff in pump impellers and casings . Unfortunately, the large size will not allow me to produce multiple copies in one print.

Again, thank you

Pleasure to be here; if you do want any specific advice, please ask. I may be able to prevent you gong down completely the wrong path!

KISS will shortly be requiring some beta-testers. Don't know if you (or anyone else reading this) would be interested?
