MK2s MMU problems

Hi everyone

I’ve been using and repairing 3d printers for over 10 years but this has me stumped. I bought a second hand MK2s and a day later a MMU I have followed the online instructions to the letter but first test the extruders where not loading in the right numerical order so I changed the steppers round but I’ve also found when I pressed the load filament the extruders unload and when I try to unload the filaments load? And on top of that nothing extruds ??

Re: MK2s MMU problems

Hi Mike,
This can be very frustrating.

the MMUv1 has four extruders on the top rail, and they are in two pairs. each motor in a pair, rotates in the opposite direction to feed filament,

the two main issues are extruder numbering from the front of my printer, extruder1 is on the left and extruder 4 is on the right.

If you number them the other way, they will all turn in a reverse manner...

if there are any poor connections on the connectors, strange things will happen....

so my suggestions,

1, ensure the extruders number 1 ... 4 from left to right, looking at the front, so extruder 1 is nearest to the Rambo and extruder 4 is nearest to the powersupply!

2, disconnect and reconnect all 4 motor cables a couple of times to ensure good connections, do the same with the two cables from the stepper motor expander board, disconnect the connectors and reconnect to clean the surfaces up.

hopefully this will restore functionality.

regards Joan

Are you heating the extruder; The Mk2 will only turn the extruder motor above a certain temp (I think around 190 degrees)

Hi Mike,

are you trying pre sliced models? or using the correct version of Slic3r?

Re: MK2s MMU problems

Did you get the MK2 working before installing the MMU?

Re: MK2s MMU problems

From the menu, if you select "load filament"/"load all" the first motor should turn very slightly (clicking about every half second) and then when you press the knob, it should turn rapidly to load the filament and then repeat that same behaviour with E2, 3 and 4. Does that happen? Basically loading filaments into the MUX (holding area - small steel tubes).

Yes it does all that it’s just nothing extrudes out of the nozzle, whether it’s just a single colour or multi coloured print ??

Re: MK2s MMU problems

When the filament is loaded, it is about 100mm short of the nozzle.

You have to use the correct printer profile with G-code which advances the filament into the nozzle before printing.

So what slicer are you using and which profile?
