PLA Layer Separation

Hello,

I printed and item with a large top surface area. The parts top layers have separated. I've tried the print twice now with similar results. At first I thought ambient temperate was the problem. I moved the printer in from the Garage (went down to 10 degrees C overnight during the print) into the house (20 degrees C) for the second print with almost the same result.

I printed with default values (215 degree C first layer, 210 rest with 60 degree bed). First layer adhesion seemed good.

What might be causing these PLA layers to separate?

RE: PLA Layer Separation

It looks like theres not enough material being extruded for a top or final layer. I hate to say it but PLA should be easy to print. What slicer, layer height ?  It looks like ingil in the pictures.

@peter-t5

Hello,

I was printing with a 0.2 mm layer height. I printed with PLA and sliced with PrusaSlicer. I've never had a print do this before.

I think I figured out what was affecting this print. Printing the top solid infill it was too fast leading to layer separation. I'd printed with the '0.20mm 100mms Linear Advance' setting which prints at 70 mm/s for top solid infill. Switching back to 0.20mm NORMAL which prints at 40 mm/s lead to a good print.

Perhaps this could also have been fixed with Linear Advance by changing the extruder temperature or reducing the print speed setting. See Layer Separation and Splitting.
