First layer issues

I have had my printer for about a month. In this first month I have had varying levels of success. I used the first spool of filament that came with the printer and purchased a spool of MatterHackers build PLA. I have been having quite a few issues with this.

When I print the 200mm calibration square it prints fairly well. There is a little bit of bubbling or bunching but this is a fairly acceptable result.

You can see from this Benchy that once I get past the first layer that it prints fairly well. The first layer did not print well, the name that is printed on the bottom is not legible but the print did not snag and I was able to complete the print.

I have been trying for the past couple of days to print the base to a turtle that I found on thingsverse, but I can not get past the first layer.

I have tried raising and lowering the first layer temp and raising and lowering the first layer bed temp, any where from 200 - 215 and 55 - 60. I have tried slowing down the first layer print speed in both Slic3r and on the printer itself. I am completely at a loss as to why the calibration print will print with no issues but other prints can't put down a quality first layer

Re: First layer issues

Give your bed a good clean and raise the z level a little. Looks a bit too close to my eyes.

Thank you for responding.
I cleaned the bed and raised the z level a little as you recommended, but with no success. I printed a different print with the settings I set up and it came out flawless. I have a feeling that the print I was attempting will just not work with out a whole lot of tweaking. I will keep playing with it and hope for the best.

Try one of the many stl repair apps around, M$ do a good one or there are some online, and stick the Thingiverse file in and see what comes out 😉
