0.6 nozzle with Prusament PETG and 0.35 fast print setting
Hello Guys,
Are you using this setup ?
I have a big problem on this in fact using all stock versions of the profiles on a prusa assembled mk2S and with prusament black petg ( the things work fine when using pla with 0.6 nozzle and 0.35 fast layer)
When using this I cannot go beyond the height of few layers !
After that the printing stops with blob
It is not a severe blob : I can still unload the filament with additional human force !
I did reproduce the same behaviour in all trials with the a benchmark object which is jo prusa test object
The only way to go to the end of the print is to manualy decrease the feed rate to 50 % !!!!!!!!!!
What can you say to help me here !

are you using the prusa PETG profiles ? and not just changing the temp on a PLA profile - PETG has a much lower volumetric limit 8 instead of 15 and realistically the limits should be more like 6 and 12

Hi as said the prusa setting in case of prusament Petg 0.6 for volumetric is 15 to be compared with 8 that is put in the other prusament Petg setting ! Anyone from Prusa reading this post that can comment ?

Are you by any chance using a hardened nozzle? PETG likes hotter temps than PLA. A hardened nozzle requires bumping temps a bit more.
It sounds like the filament simply isn't flowing smoothly enough. I'd try upping temps about 10C. Check to make sure you're not using excessive cooling (under filament settings) as PETG works best with 0-30% fan speeds.
I routinely print PETG with 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0mm nozzles with these settings.

I've got an older set here. Be aware of the PINDA warmup pause at the start of my gcode.

This to report that I have been able to solve partialy my problem.
I remind you that I was able to print in PLA with no problem but that it was impossible to get a Petg print going to its end.
In fact I made multiple cleanups and cold pushes.
So far I was thinking that when a nozzle was obstructed, it was valid for all filaments !
So now I am printing with 0.6 nozzle, Petg and Asa using Prusa stock profiles.
But in all cases, i do observe repetitive patterns on the surface of the prints.
See the exemple attached : it is an ASA print of a cylindric form
Same happens with all filements but is more noticeable when the form is cylindric
It seems that this comes from something that happens at the change of layer
Any idea how to solve that ?

Hi,
I just swapped to 0.6mm brass nozzle (from Prusa) and tried printing in PETG...a few layers are OK then just a blob..I am only printing something small with rectangular profile.
Had no problems with the 0.4mm nozzle.
Using the Prusa profiles.
What is the answer please?

Actualy I have not been able to understand the reason of the problem.
I have solved it in most cases by multiple maintenances of the printer regarding tensions, torques, oil ... etc
So most of the time it has disappeared
I would surely prefer to be able to say "change this" and "it will give this result"
Anyway, I am currently printing Petg, Asa and PCblend from .1 to .35 smoothly with no blob

I have just done maintenance, but I will check belt tension.
It almost looks like the PETG is getting too hot...the layers seem to start sinking down ,then the top layers becomes a big blobby mess.

What kind of heatbreak do you have ? the legacy one or the MMU compatible one ?
The MMU one is more prone to blob.
By the way I do not know how to determine the one that you may have !
Regarding maintenance have you performed cold pulls with your new .6 nozzle ?
Regarding temperatures, is your PETG a prusament branded one ? and are you using prusa slicer with stock profiles ?

- I had just replaced the standard MK3S heatbreak with the E3D Titanium version ,as I was planning to print with wood filament.
- What is a cold pull?
- I use Prusament PETG - yes
- Stock profiles - yes
Since yesterday ,I tried a couple of differnet things and I was able to print without the big blog
1) Updated to the latest Firmware
2) Reduced the infill setting from 90% to 50% to 30%
I was trying to make the part as strong as possible ,so wanted highest infill. At 90% and 50% I got the blobbing ,but at 30% it was almost entirely gone.
It seems to me that on a small part it simply extrudes too much filament ,so that the laid down plastic is still very soft when the nozzle is making lots of changes in direction, and it gets stuck on the nozzle.
What do you think of this theory?

Avoid high density infill with PETG. Infill prints quickly with default profiles, which my be part of your clogging problem. For stronger parts, more perimeters help more than infill.
Small parts may be tricky with PETG since the default profiles use little, if any, cooling. Print multiple parts so each one can cool off before the nozzle returns. Spread them out to aid cooling.
The E3D titanium heatbreak does not have the 2.2-2.0mm step.
Cold pull lifts crud out of the nozzle. Google "Prusa cold pull" for details.
