Z stops checking bed height on some points/random
OK this is weird. I've printed hundreds of items and run thousands of hours so I'm very familiar with it's normal behavior.
It started failing to initialize while doing the bed leveling about once out of every 10 prints. Note - it didn't not detect the bed. It would go into position, then go up and just fail.
Then it was every other print. then it was 4 out of 5. Now it won't get passed this phase. It's always the front right spot, but sometimes the middle and the middle right spots as well.
The sensor light doesn't go out in these problem positions.
Other notes; I took it all apart and replaced the slide bearings which were getting a little squeaky. That didn't fix anything. Upgraded the firmware to the latest (3.2.3 I think). I've run countless calibrations with no luck.
Any thoughts?
This sort of failure is often due to a cracked or broken cable - check continuity and make sure connections are not loose.
Cheerio,
RE: Z stops checking bed height on some points/random
That's a good thought - maybe when the cable is on the right X axis it's pulling the cable tight.
BUT, it doesn't seem to be the issue. I did a bunch of adjusting and testing of the touch sensor and it appears to be fine.
BUT, things are degrading fast. It was getting stuck in weird loops crashing into the bed randomly or the software doing random things. Now it won't move the z-Axis down, but it will go up (so I have to power it off and twist it by hand to bring it down). But it almost seems like a UI issue. it will adjust up numerically, but as soon as I turn it down it zeros out on the screen. It also won't move down in the calibration. It moves up smoothly so I assume the wiring is good. Maybe this is a motherboard issue with the motor drivers or power supply?
I'm losing hope here. 🙁

I had a similar issur and it was down to the pinda wire.
I resolved the issue by replacing the wire

I think you're right. Right in the sharp angle on the print head if I straightened it just right it would allow z-moves again.
Thank you! I wouldn't have guessed this was the problem.
