Where to find and how to replace PFTE tube

So I have this issue... Nozzle was jammed, and I tried doing everything I could to clear it out by conventional means with no success.

Any suggestions on getting a replacement and doing the change? The tube is pretty well stuck in there so even if I could find a tube I'm not sure how I would get that one out.

remove the heatbreak from the other end of the heatsink

I am guessing you have tried pulling the ptfe tube out of the black ring, without success., if not, skip the next two sentences

using a sharp knife, cut the white PTFE Tube across the top of the black ring

use an allen key (hex wrench) to push the white tube into the black ring, and out of the bottom of the heatsink

details on filament replacement available at following link!

Thanks Joan, this is super helpful.

What I am finding is that the plastic is very jammed in there, and since it isn't hot it's basically completely solid.

See the first picture. Is that threaded piece supposed to stay with the heat break so I could push things through?

See the second picture. I've also managed to break off that black ring. So I probably need more than just the PFTE tube now.

Thoughts? I'm OK to buy more than just the tube if it will mean having this reliably fixed.

Re: Where to find and how to replace PFTE tube

What you are holding in your first picture is the aluminium heat sink.

The stainless steel heat break is screwed into the bottom of the heat sink; you need to unscrew the heat break and push the PTFE downwards.

The heat break can be very tight due to the thermal paste on the threads, so you may need to use pliers to hold the parts and to break the lock.

Replacement black rings are available from E3d or one of their stockists

Thanks Peter and Joan!!! You are right that I was getting the terminology wrong. For some reason I thought I had removed the heat break but what I removed was the heater block.

It seems like I would need to get a countersunk nut onto the heat break to have any chance to get it out. I can get a good grip on the heat sink but anything I put on the heat break just spins around it. A big part of that is how small it is.

I'll head over to the hardware store to try and see if they have anything that might help.

Thanks again!

if you can grip the protruding thread, in soft jaws in a vice, you should be able to unscrew the heatsink

Progress! I was worried about bending it but I was able to grab it and turn it, it was easier than I expected.

Now I can see the filament (solid). It's too far in to grab, and pushing through doesn't seem to work either.

I think the thing to do now is try drilling the top with a very small bit to loosen up what's stuck. I need to replace the PFTE tube and the black piece anyway.

Thoughts?

Thanks for staying with this and helping me, it's been tough being without my only 3d printer for 2 months.

Use oven gloves. Heat in oven and push filament out with allen wrench or stout w8re

As I am sure you can guess that was also successful. THANKS!!!

So now I need to get a PFTE tube (easy, with your link) and find that black ring. So far my searches are coming up empty. Does that black ring have a name?

(I know I keep repeating it but thank you... I'm learning a lot in this process, much more than I did from building the kit the first time.)

Thank you Peter! I saw that and thought surely I don't need something referring to bowden if my printer is a direct drive. I had to melt that piece out so I had no idea what it looked like before it was destroyed.

Just want to come back and say that I was successful ordering those parts and have gotten my printer working again.

Thank you Joan and Peter for taking the time to help me resolve the issues!

Best, Bill
