Upgrading a Mk2 to 2.5

I bought a Mk2 many years ago and I enjoyed using it.   When the Mk2.5 kit came out I purchased one of them.  Then life got in the way and the kit never got installed. (in fact it has been so long my original username and password is no longer recognised by this website)

I have recently dusted off my Mk2 got it going again and want to install the upgrade kit.   I did print out the parts for the Mk2.5 upgrade but to upgrade to the MK2S to start with is all I need the U bolts and the rest of the Mk2 to 2S upgrade parts obsolete in the Mk2.5?

I have never had a problem with the bearings and rods in my Mk2 so it there any need to replace them? Should I replace the belts while I have it apart as they are rubber and would perish over time.

Bearings and rods should be ok, clean and re grease if you can spare the time.

Belts are relatively inexpensive, but make sure you get 'Gates', 2gt belts, lesser belts have lower quality and poorer performance,
Don't consider steel re enforced belts, the Prusa pulleys are too small and will cause early fatigue
There is a tiny bumper block to go on the X axis platform, to  operate the endstop switch... don't forget to fit it!
best wishes, Joan

Thanks, I have ordered some new Gates belts and also the U bolts to bring it up to Mk2S standard as I upgrade to Mk2.5.  I will look out for the bumper Block.

I bought u bolts but never used them. Be careful.u bolts can distort bearing sleeves if too tight

Well it took awhile, but I finally installed the kit have upgraded it to a Mk2.5S.  I just have to print a fan shroud first as the one I had was for the Mk2.5.  Lucky it seems you do not need to fan to print ABS. I do not normally print ABS but have an old roll here.  I also went ahead and put new rods and bearings on it (aftermarket) a new cloned hot end and new thermistor and heater cartridge, all came from triangle labs on aliexpress.  The bed used to rattle like crazy on some printing moves, but is more rigid now.

Might be time to do a  hot end 'PID' calibration... at the temperature you normally print at!

regards Joan
