Troubleshooting Needed
i3 Mk2, Prusa-built, in service since 2016. I've put it through the maintenance steps (cleaned rods, tightened belts, etc.) but this is pretty consistent. As you can see in the photo below, the lines show up on the sides (see top item) and the top layer (bottom of image). Tried changing print speeds. Using Hatchbox PLA, which has been a consistent performer until about a month ago; also tried 3D Solutech PLA and MatteForge Pro PLA, both with the same results. Any ideas would be appreciated!
Re: Troubleshooting Needed
The pattern looks extruder volume related. As if every N millimeters of raw filament the extruder misses.
1) Have you checked that the filament gear teeth are all clean and a few teeth aren't filled with debris?
2) Have you watched the nozzle temp for any cooldown during extrusion?
3) (reaching) Have you removed the nozzle and blown air up through the filament path? Debris can settle down into the PTFE path and cause jams. This type of jam usually happen over longer times - many layers into a part - and they usually don't oscillate; they usually stay plugged until the filament is removed... then jam again on the next part, midway through the print.
Re: Troubleshooting Needed
Thanks, @tim.m30! On the hunch that it's your number 1, I ordered a hobbed pulley from Prusa. When it arrives, I'll crack open the head and see if it's bent/broken teeth. The answer to Number 2 is the temperature stays consistent. And your number 3 is now on the list of maintenance activities when I have the new pulley. The truth of the matter is I've been printing for most of the the last 3 years without any routine maintenance or issues. So I'm due for a stand down so I can catch up on the regular old wear-and-tear updates.
