Suspect my PINDA has died - your help please
Hi, my MK2S has been working fine until today. When I started a print it failed the bed levelling routine and asked for a Reset. This did not help. I discovered that the Z axis will not go below whatever position it was in at power on. If I manually position the Z axis close to the bed then power on I can move the axis all the way up and all the way back down to where it originated. If I raise the Z axis near the top while it is powered off then, after power on the Z axis will not go below this level.
I assume this has something to do with the PINDA indicating that it has detected the bed no matter where it is - or the controller is no longer interpreting the PINDA signals correctly.
Have any of you had anything similar to this? If yes I'd be most grateful for guidance. Right now I can only think to get another PINDA and see if replacing it helps.
Help!
John
Re: Suspect my PINDA has died - your help please
Check at the pinda where the cable goes in whether the red light in clear plastic ring is on.
Should be always on when not near the bed.
Place a piece of metal to the pinda and it should switch, the light should be out then.

Thanks, the LED is off and remains off regardless of whether it is near the bed (or other metal object). I assume this more or less confirms the problem is with the senor. Once the replacement arrives I will post an update. Is this sensor known to fail or is this 'just one of those things' ?
Best Regards,
John

It usually isn`t the probe itself but more likely a broken wire there where it gets bent the most (depending on your fastening).
Power up your printer, wiggle the cables back and forth and eventually you should see the light coming on.
Once located the faulty place strip the insulation, resolder and insulate with some shrink-tubing and...
... Always happy printing.

New PINDA arrived today and printer is now back in action. I'll do a postmortem on the original one to check for broken wires.
Thanks for the help.
