Retraction settings with linear advance and getting clogs
I recently started using linear advance after updating my firmware where k = 50, and I am really happy with the quality I am getting, but I have started to run into a issue with retraction when printing a part with a decent amount of retractions and getting clogs.
At first I guessed it was cause I had higher retraction at .8mm and speed at 100mm/sec, so I dropped that down to .3mm and 30mm/sec, which fixed the clog issue but then I got some stringing/oozing. So I bumped retraction up a bit to .4mm and 50mm/sec and that caused a clog about 1.5 hours into the print.
Is it the distance or the speed that is causing the clog? Or is it a combo of both?
I assumed that the small bump I made would not cause a clog, but I guess I was wrong.
My other settings:
Temp 205
Print speed 50mm/sec
Extrusion multi .94
Extrusion width .48 (with a .4 nozzle)
Using filastruder veracity pla

With PLA, you really don't want too high a retraction speed. 25 to 35 mm/sec should work fine.
Have you calibrated your K value? The theory is that if set correctly, no retraction is required. In practice, it is, but should be minimal as you only need to clear the nozzle throat (eg 0.4mm diameter x 0.6mm length = 0.07 mm^3).
Stringing may be caused by other things as well. Turn off wipe, if the print can handle it, turn off Z-lift. Ensure the non-printing moves are as fast as possible. Drop the temp by a few degrees.

I will try with temp at 200, retraction at .3, speed at 35.
I dont use wipe or z lift, and I calibrated K value which is how I decided on k=50.

I think I am just going to give up on linear advance. Tried multiple lower temps and still get clogs and oozing.

Linear advance works pretty well.
For me with PLA, PETG, Stonefil and even flexible materials. There are certainly reasons for your printer getting clogged. Linear advance at least is not one of them.

Like most of these procedures, LA is not perfect and does have some flaws. And I do find it quite easy to break. But when it's working, it can work very well.

It was the issue for me. I turned it off last night and used my old settings and my parts came out fine. Not as nice looking when I had LA working though.
I might try getting it working again when I don't have any projects going on.

I've had a lot of stringing since I got LA set up.
Prusa's still using ~5-100 numbers for LA?
Vanilla Marlin switched to ~0-2 (i.e. mm of compression instead of an arbitrary scaler), so my homebrew with bowden uses LA of ~1.2 while here I use ~60 (TPU).
